Hey guys ive been haveing this weird knocking/clacking noise coming from my 7 bolt motor. I was thinking it was the lifters but then i just changed all the lifters out with the 3g type and motors still making the noise. I tried the knock method of removing 1 spark plug wire at a time on each cylinder while motors running and i got no differences at all. The motors been makin this noise for a while now and hasnt really got any worse or better just been the same.

Heres a video tell me what you guys think.

Does it stop after a certain RPM?

It does sound like rod knock, but it usually gets worse over time.

Rod knock is generally going to get worse/louder as the RPMs go up.

Pull the pan and check it out.

See and this isnt really my case. It doesnt get louder as rpm clim it actually gets less noticable. The knocking noise only really accures when its at idle and i give it a quick some quick throttle.

Theres no metal shavings in the oil as well.

It sounds exactly how my 2g spyder did, ..

Stop driving it?!? Pull the pan, try moving the rod cap back and forth, if there is no play in them your good, hell, maybe you can even change the rod bearings while your in there..

But im pretty sure its rod knock man... =/

Sorry but its a rod..!!.....i have heard many cars sound like that...
It doesn't matter if you replace your rods, within 500 miles it will make the noise again, your crank needs to be rectified..!!

that is the sound of V-Tak just kiddin' .... sorry to heard that... it is a rod knock sound....

Dear everyone, please stop narrating your videos, you can post the information in text form where we don't have to listen to you.

That sounds like rod knock.

yep, i agree with everyone else. my 97 gsx sounded identical. but its easy to fix. pull the pan and start replacing. good luck bro. hope everything works out for you.

Ok guys i just got done draining the oil and pulling the oil pan tonight. I drained the oil and it did have a little amount of small metal shavings in it. But the crazy and weird part is everything looks good. I cant even tell if it really did throw a rod bearing. All the rod caps look good theres no discoloration at all. Theres no loose rod caps. Everything to me looks ok! Im thinkin about just ordering a new set of rod bearings and install them and see what happens. Tell me what you guys think about the pics posted below.

Also what yr/type of 7 bolt motor is this?

good luck man, scariest and most painful thing you can experience with a DSM is shoving a rod through the block. I had a very bad learning process with my first AWD talon (seven bolt) Threw a rod strait through the block. very painful.

i had a rod knock that would only occur after the engine oil would warm up i dropped the pan and it wiped the #1 rod bearing. i put new bearings in lasted about 3000 miles and theres shavings in the oil and i think its happening again so lets hope it doesnt happen to you. oh when you replace everything i beg you to clean your oil cooler PLEASE

hey man, sorry that happen to you, it just happen to me today before i going to work..... now kinda upset but going to buy a new head and piston..... i think so but idk asking :aha:

Do anyone knows what would you need to buy or part to get, to fit it??

I got the same noise on sunday, man. That sucks. I am almost confident I have a rod knock now. Will open the engine this week to check it out. It's epidemic :(

Did you have power and vacuum? I lost power and my idle vacuum was like -3 inHg after the noise appeared....

Everything was working great ... just beside when i raised my RPM around 3 -4... u can started to hear this clicking n knocking noise ..... so i upload it on facebook n my friends n tech guy told me it was a ROD. So i was upset ... didnt wanted to spent money on my heads ### i was saving for the DSM-link but **** Happens.. Learned from it n Fit 20 times better then before ... my friend told me today....
