Hey all !
My name is Mitch and I am a new owner of a 95 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD. The car is Red with gold rims. As well, it has not been winter driven for the past 9-10 years.
The paint is in great condition as so is the interior! The previous owner said he had brought is to some previous car shows ( giving you a better idea of its condition).
Unfortunately, most of the work that had been done to the car was done by the previous-Previous owner. While he has listing quit a few mods, the list remains incomplete.
Currently the car has, from what he knows:
-Magnaflow exhaust (full or not, not sure)
-6 Bolt engine
-16g turgo (big, small, ebay .. i don't know yet)
-4' long FMIC
-BOV (dont know brand)
-Wideband O2
-ECM Link
For the moment this is all I know.
An IBM laptop came with the computer. Last Wednesday, I drove 3 hours to Quebec city to check out the car. Left a deposit and in return, he gave me the laptop for familiarise myself with ECMLink. I am not sure of the ECMLink version ON the ECU but the laptop is running program v2.5.2.16.
Fast forward one week later and here I am today. Any minute now I show receive a phone call with the seller on the other line telling me he is in front of my house. Because I did not fell like driving another 7ish hours, we have agreed that he will ship the car to me on a flat bed for a modest fee ($120).
I have many unanswered question and because of a language barrier, he is not able to learn ECMLink yet alone teach it to me. He said the car had been sitting for 3-4 months and he is not sure if the tune gets "erased" if the battery becomes dead. None the less, I test drove the car with caution.
The good part, his tuners now lives in Montreal (where I live) thus the reason he wasn't able to get the car tuned when I checked it out.
Over this past week, I've been dedicated my spare time in reading and teaching myself ECMLink. Learning, comprehending and teaching myself from dummy dump logs and lots of online reading.
What I am asking from you kind DSM community, is helping me in identifying certain parts of the vehicle such as:
-Fuel Injectors ( how to tell is stock? or aftermarket if so, how do I identity them?)
-Air flow meter? (1g? 2g? GM maft?)
-Turbo (is it big, small or ebay 16g?)
When the car arrives and we are done the paperwork, what would be the exact steps YOU would take in assuring I can tune this monster properly? In other words, physically, what am I looking for to identify the parts, what is the main information I need to start tuning?
Thanks all for the help! I am anxiously awaiting my new baby!

.
But in all seriousness, keep up the maintenance on her, don't cut corners, and remember this: if you can't afford to do it once (in reference to cheaply made performance eBay parts/rushing to fix or do something, etc) you sure as hell can't afford to do it a second time. That will save you much grief
Also make sure to get a copy of the Factory service manual, those have literally EVERYTHING you need to know about the car should anything come up.
but i think everyone would agree when i say Maintenance first, Fun Second,
