Blah I dont think it looks that ugly. PS I dont run mesh or anything, and my car is daily driven and non-garged... NEver had a problem except sometimes the belts squeal when its cold and wet. But just for a few minutes.

I try to include as many pictures as possible as I Remember when I was interested nobody ever posted enough pictures...

Going by basic assumed pressure differentials it should be pulling air at this location, just like stock Evo vents have been doing for years, or the new GTR Z-Tune. It would pull air in if it was mounted nearer to the windshield possibly. The sweetspot is right in the middle of the hood.

I don't have tuft evidence of it on my car (may try to this year if there's enough interest) but I've talked to a crew member from the Lou Gigliotti team when they did full scale testing of hood vents on their vette in GM's wind tunnel. Similar vent location, slightly different style. As you can see they even blocked off the inlet on the top of the front bumper.

Now tuft it and show us what it's doing. Don't be shocked if it's sucking air in.

I used water and when it hit the heat shield and anything hot under there, it defintely pulls the steam out quick! I know it works, maybe if I have time ill do a photographed example with strings for you defiant, but I specifically looked up this vent and placed in this location for pulling air out.

You can find the vent at WELCOME TO CARBON TRIX which is a subsidiary of RRE.

The best thing to do aout the intake would probably be a NACA duct of some nature. I know RRE makes one, but the problem is getting it to be large enough to work well and still get the air to the right place. If you really wanted to go gung ho on this your best bet would be to build a chamber in that little corner and then use foam to seal the inlet to the hood.

On a 1ga though this is nearly impossible as the popups take up all the area where the vent should go.

Great install, Blaze. Looks good.

I'd just be keen to see it instead of exchanging all the suppositions about it.

Will somebody please tuft one of these, and put an end this seemingly never-ending "debate"? It'd be as simple as yarn, tape, and a passenger with a camera.

If I had one of the rre vents and it wasn't snowing here I would love to. I'll definitely tuft my Vis hood though to see what's goign on with it.

ROFL I'd love to help, but I'm not taping anything to my car. Fresh paint and all....

The scoop used in my project is available in a fiberglass and carbon fiber. Both are available through RRE or directly from Carbon Trix. The CF one runs for 99 dollars and the non CF retails at 50.

It's typically better to draw air OUT of an engine for the reasons stated above, plus for the obvious fact that our engines run super hot. I melted my spal fan sitting in traffic (that was the main reason behind this mod). Forcing air in is better for NA cars with ram air, or turbo cars running top mount intercoolers (RX7 FC or Subarus)

My other hood is seemingly counter-productive. The small vent forces air in (I believe it has something to do with either anti-lag (in japan) or to the timing belt (similar to the RC ST205s (Celicas)). However, while the side vents work well to release heat above and beyond the center one, the drivers side vent sits on top of my intake and I suspect draws air away from it. I will need to run a sealed box in the future if it returns to the track.

We're talking about a $60 difference with RRE and the site you listed.

I realize that. The link I posted was for the carbon fiber version. Call the number and tell them you want the same thing in fiberglass and you can get it for $40. RRE and Carbontrix are the same company.

I was asking for the dimensions of RRE's vent. I know wider is better which is why I want to compare which is the better deal.

RRE is the parent company of Carbontrix. If you click on the picture of the carbon fiber wide hood vent guess what you get, a page with the dimensions.

Carbon Fiber Wide Hood Vent - $99.00 : Carbontrix, Composites Design and Production

oh and if you click on the smaller versions you get the same thing.

Carbon Fiber Short Vent - $89.00 : Carbontrix, Composites Design and Production

Carbon Fiber Long Vent - $89.00 : Carbontrix, Composites Design and Production

wow looks great. you can definitely pull it off with a 2g, but is anyone running one on their 1g? The only reason i have thoughtabout this mod is because the previous owner my awd gave me one with the car. If anyone has it on a 1g lets see some pics!

cioc has one too.
