OK I dont know if this is the right place for this but i want to get some ideas on what people think is a ricer vs. tuner. Just think about what you think the difference is between them just want to know cause im tired of people saying ricer just because its an inline 4 with a snail. Ok nothing like a cardboard bodykit that is to easy. im talking about vinyl, big exhaust(fart can), glassed interior.

Number one give a way for ricer. Thinks his NOS sticker adds 5HP. Ricers are the guys that say oh this intake gives me XX hp and my exhaust gave me XX HP... after 4 or 5 things they added to their car it sounds like they should be pushing 400+ horse, but in reality they're barely over 200..

Just having the vinyl brand sticker is that ricey kinda like it. that's if i had the parts on my car.

You bring up a good topic. There are some areas in which people will say it is rice but is it really?

Example: People claim the Greddy Type S bov is to ricey. However, it does in fact hold boost, and if you like the sound, then it does its job.

Example of an idiot talking about rice: One guy thought turbo timers were ricey. Yes.....moving on

I would say, unless it is something unique, don't run a sticker.

Example: ACT makes cluthes and gives you a sticker. Half the DSMs you will ever see probably runs an ACT and the other cars you drive by could care less. In fact all they see is a word that says "act" and so the brand means nothing to them.

A muffler by itself is rice, because it does nothing by itself, however if you attach it to say a 3" turboback exhaust then it is serving a purpose.

That leads me to the bottom line. If it is serving a performance purpose, it will be hard to call it rice.

I've given up debating with friends, especially since they all insist my car was made in Japan and that in itself makes it a ricer.

After attempting to explain anything for the fiftieth time, I'm done. They can call it what they want.

Yea i got that about the stickers make since. I have had my car ricey just because i have clear side markers at least i put leds in them(they are amber leds) so you cant see a orange bulb in the day. With the Leds they are crystal clear.

does it really matter? its all in the eye of the beholder, If your car looks how you pictured it looking and are happy with it then so be it, does anybody elses opinion honestly have any affect on you liking your car? It shouldn't...just my .02

I know the feeling my friends all have mustangs or camaros even if they have v6 of i4 they still call me a ricer even if i can kick there a$$ on the track. even if i tell them my car is made in Illinois(home of me and the talons:hellyeah:) they still call it a ricer.

Ricer= someone who thinks they can make their car LOOK fast, and to them looking fast MAKES it fast. A well build JDM civic isn't ricer. A cavalier with a fart can and a wing is a piece of rice. A DSM running 11's with a full 3" that happens to have a larger muffler isn't ricer. Talk to someone who knows their DSM stuff or a Honda Guru, and then talk to some stupid kid. You'll see the difference. Some people think certain things about cars(headlights, taillights, etc) are rice, but when the people who did it think they are some super smart tuner who knows everything, they are ricer.

I know but i even see it on this site people calling people ricers and they did a eclipse swap on a talon:notgood: make me mad when people to that. no affiance to people that have. im just trying to see peoples opinions on it.

a ricer is someone who will say they have a part when they don't and in all reality don't know what it is or if it exists.
my favorite
"hey i bet you have some nice piston return springs on that thing"
ricer answers "the best money can buy"
they also think 20 inch rims are nice for cars. when in reality its just over kill and adds weight.
and my oh so favorite of all!!!
lets put this HUGE aftermarket wing on the back of my FWD car. cause that makes it handle and go faster
but that is kinda a big generalization. but i stick to it haha.
thank you fast and the furious for making people think putting flashy colors on a car makes it fast

It is ok to make apperance mods. It is also ok to have a little rice in your life. I myself use clear corners and tinted tail lights, why...because it looks sick! If a passer-byer has a problem with it then they can sniff my exhaust fumes when i smoke their sorry ass.haha

My definition of a ricer is someone who adds stickers to their cars and the car is aboslutely stock.
Now there is a fine line between some guy who loves bodykit's. You might call him a ricer but hey, he likes body kits and it's his persona. Our cars might not be rice but does that stop anyone from thinking our cars aren't rice coming from people outside the tunning world.
Some domestic might call tuners ricers also. Hence the hks supra or mines gtr. They are great track cars but have all the name brand stickers of parts on the car or sponsors. Go ask any domestic guy and they'll say it's rice.
Wanna see rice. I say go to a NOPI show. but this rule contradicts the first reason I mention. HAAA!
IT'S IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER PEOPLE!!!

ok i got one for the big wing. my car is FWD and i was thinking about taking the talon 2gb wing off and put a big carbon fiber wing just cause i think it looks good. Here is a pic for an example.

And o yea i think anything bigger then 17's are to big for the car and 18's on eclipse and talon ride like cr@p. my friends had 19's had to go to back to stock after hitting a pothole and taking out two of his rims.

Not saying that a big wing would be the best thing you could do. The only thing is thou, it might look "tacky" IF that is the only exterior mod you have done.

will that one is a little extreme some smaller but it probably dose look tacky form the back.

Cat. back exhaust - Nice
Welded on fart can - Rice

Tinted tail lights - Nice
Altezza tail lights - Rice

Stock spoiler - Nice
Aluminum wing - Rice

Ok i know this is a little off but i also have a Suzuki Sidekick with header into a 2 1/4 exhaust witch comes out to a 4 inch tip all custom mandrel bent tubing too. I get called ricey all the time for it. I think it looks sick. I did just have a 3 inch tip on my 1 1/2 exhaust but thats because it was a temp fix. Plan on putting the stock turbo form my talon on it when i upgrade.:D

As me and my buddy say "To each is his own...." leave it at that.

Oh but if you want to say something back to them if they say "hey nice rice" just remind them that yes your motor and some parts did all come from over seas, but it was all assembled here and use some parts from here.... I no my car was built in Tennessee. haha

Brand names of body kits, under-drive pullies, and air filters that claim x-amount of hp gain plastered on the door as a roll call - rice

A few tasteful decals hidden under the hood to honor the engine internals and turbo that can help you get into the 10's - nice

It's a sidekick, it was never meant to be modded. Leave it be and focus on your talon.

I know but don't like to be like every one else. That was before i got my talon. That is my first car. Im focusing one putting my talon back together right now. doing a full strip paint and rebuild after my crash going to look something like this when I'm done with it.
