Well I recently bought 98 eclipse that is somewhat of a project car. I have already fixed several problems but I have no experience whatsoever with ECUs or engine management. The previous owner informed me that she had a rev limiter put on the car for her son's safety. I know her and her son very well and can't see this as a lie. I went to the mechanic that did the work though and he is denying that he ever did something like that. I'm not so sure though because he admitted to not wanting to have much to do with "hot rods" and I got the feeling that he's an import hater who just doesn't want to help me out. What I do know is that I can't go past 3k rpms while idle or moving. On a side note the speedo is not working properly either. What should I do? Any advice would be appreciated.

Might be your either your crank or cam angle sensor. I do believe one of those sends out the tach info and what do you mean by your speedo does not work properly?

When I first got it it didn't work at all but I snooped around and found that the speed sensor was disconnected so I plugged it up so now the speedo just jumps around randomly. I'm assuming that's just a bad sensor. I just threw it in as a side note in case it could possibly be linked to the rev issue because some of the forums I researched before posting seem to have simliar issues. An early rev limit and jacked up speedo.
