rev limiter....or something bad!?

i got a 1990 gsx...i was wondering if i have a rev limiter....cuz my car wont let me pass 6rpms...it will like hold back....rev limiter or something wrong..??

Doing what? Simply saying it won't go pass 6k is vague, it's going to take more details than that to help you troubleshoot it, as much detail as possible.
 
im thinking its my ecu...but im kinda new to dsm only had mine for a year...so i dunno what do say or do for you guys to help me out...i was just wondering if someone had a similar problem in the past...hmm...i mean what usually causes this?...less air,gas??...im confused...
 
well basically...its normal when you start pressing the gas...from 1-5rpms its normal but when it gets to 6rpms...it wants me to stop ...this doesnt happen if i drive normal ONLY when i want to go fast....so im trying to say is it only happens when i race or try to catch up to somebody....danggit am i making sense?... :coy:
 
1. Does it do it in every gear?

2. Does it do it all the time? full throttle? Part throttle.......etc.

3. What does it feel like when you hit 6K? Bucking? Sputtering? Falls on it's face?....etc.

4. What does the boost gauge tell you in relation to the problem?

Pretend you're writing a term paper for school to describe what happens when you get to 6k, everything you can think of, give me at least one paragraph with complete sentences.

What does the boost gauge read when the problem is occurring?

I understand your position and I don't mind helping you but you must put in more effort in your respones. No more short answers, I'm looking for answers with as much explanation as you can provide. For example, instead of "Full throttle", it should have been "This happens at full throttle only and I'm able to go pass 6K with part throttle". Your brain is just sitting there waiting for you to use it so use it.

ok i am back

going out on a test drive to see what was wrong...heres what i found..


1st gear....flooring the car BEFORE 3k=...car will go to 6k,but after 6k it seems as if you let go of the gas(yet your still flooring it)...maybe boosting too early??

1st gear....flooring AFTER 3k=...car will go pass 6k and will limit as usual at 7.5k....(maybe suppose to boost after 3k??)

2nd gear...flooring the car BEFORE 3k=...starting from 4k-7.5k...little lag as if not getting enough gas...passes 6k THO!!

2nd gear...flooring the car AFTER 3k=...starting from 4k-7.5k...no lag great boost till 7.5k

...other gears are fine....

on a roll(20mph)

2nd gear flooring it BEFORE 3k....after 6k little lag as if your letting go of the gas

2nd gear flooring it AFTER 3k....boosts great till 7.5k....

hope this helps...and oh yea....saw a cop after on the way home :tease:

Much better...but YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE IT TO 7.5K ON THESE TEST RUNS, LET OFF ONCE IT PASSES 6K. I don't understand why there would be a difference between spooling before 3k or after, this is what I suggest.

1. A complete boost leak test.
2. Check plugs and wires, change them if you have not done so lately, make sure it's gapped to .028".

Post back results.
