[RESOLVED] What's the point of putting on a 2g head?

I read time after time that the 6 bolt head is better. Today, I just finally realized I had a 7 bolt head on my 6 bolt (I hope it's a 6 bolt). I found this out because when I went to go install my manifold, my 6 bolt stud kid was missing the 2 bigger studs on the ends. So I gave SBR a call and asked what was up with the miscount. They told me the 7 bolt head has the two bigger studs. Ok, so I guess I'll just use new smaller studs. Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out why the guy put on a 7 bolt head... I've read that the head stud holes have to be drilled out and then there's a couple more modifications that need to be done. So why in the heck did the previous owner do this? Man I hate this guy...

Maybe the head went bad, bent some valvs, other problems arose, and the nearest more accessible part to him was a 7 bolt to solve the problem, so he slapped that in.
The 7 bolt head isn't so bad, it has a good street power curve.

Could be the previous owner had to make a repair as mentioned, had a 7bolt head and did the mods to make it work.
Don't be discouraged by having this head, yes the 6bolt ports are larger, not necessarily better. Many people favor the 2g head over 1g due to its port velocity. 1g heads have been said to be lazy and that the way the air enters the valve on a 2g head may possibly make it more efficient and speed up airflow. Keep in mind mitsubishi used a head much more similar to a 2g on the evo8/9. They did this for a reason.
I believe Kiggly uses a 2g head on his 8sec 1g.
Both heads have put down serious power on dynos and both do work well either way. Its a matter of preference

I re-used my seven bolt head on a 2.3 six bolt short block - I wanted that stealth look.

I did a lot of reading before using my seven bolt head and the best I could tell; the 6 bolt has bigger ports but the seven flows more due to the internal angles. The 6 bolt head only becomes an advantage in high HP applications. If you are talking about a ported seven bolt head, the six bolt no longer has the advantage...

Chime in if my interpretation is wrong..

Untouched to untouched head, the 6-bolt head will flow more CFM. The ports on a 7-bolt head are meant to have more velocity then CFM flow. The more velocity the higher torque numbers will be.

Here's the pics.

Yeah that doesn't look like a 2g head... anyone that would use that intake manifold on a 2g head would be kinda "slow"... and I don't mean their car is slow either... .LOL.

Most likely the above posters are right and you've got a late model 1g head/intake manifold combination.

You can really check this by taking a picture of the stamping in the head between the cas and the exhaust cam's half moon black plug right above where the water neck mounts.

A 1g head will say something like G6, small port 2g heads will say g6k g6s or g6c.

You say this knowing that I have a 1g mani on a 2g head. You're a dick! ROFL

Just drill the manifold. Takes seconds.

If you are using head bolts, you are ok. If you are using head studs, you must drill out the holes to the 6 bolt size. Otherwise you will get oil starvation to the head, if you can even use the studs at all.

The point of the 1g 7 bolt head is that they have the exact same ports, and they are plentiful in the junkyards. People seam to jack all the 6 bolts, but leave the 7 bolts and their perfectly good head/manifolds.

I haven't even removed my valve cover since I've owned the car. Nor have I had a need too. And plus I would want to buy a new valve cover gasket because I would be in the "replace it now before it leaks" mood.
Lets say it has studs, wouldn't they technically already have to be drilled out? I'd like to go with some ARP Head Studs in the future.
If it has bolts, then it came stock with bolts like that right?
