[RESOLVED] Socketing my EPROM ECU...now which socket?

Hi all. I'm planning on socketing my EPROM ECU in my 92 Talon so I can upgrade to DSMap. I have been trying to find out which socket I should get? I have seen several different models and pin counts and wanted to know which one if the correct socket. Any help is greatly appreciated.:thumb:

For sockets we use Mill-Max # 110-99-628-41-001000 ( Digi-Key # ED3728-ND). This machined-pin socket works nicely with EPROMs and is more compatable with the 1G memory module and memory modules that will be used with future versions of DSMLink for both 1G and 2G.

The socket from Moates is similar.

Be aware that the 2G ECU board is easily damaged when removing the stock EPROM, much more so than with the 1G ECU. When properly desoldered using the correct tools, the EPROM will come out easily with no force needed. NEVER pry between the EPROM and the board.

Use a 28 pin machined-pin socket, particularly if this is a 1G ECU. The size of the spacer supplied with the 1G DSMLink memory module fits best with that. The stamped-pin socket is taller and adding one of the supplied washers to the spacer doesn't always produce a spacing that gives good pin retention. Sometimes the stamped-pin socket or the spacer can be trimmed to allow the module's pins to seat better, but it's easier just to use the machined-pin socket in the first place. The memory board must sit flush when the retaining screw is installed.

If this is a 2G ECU, beware that it is very easy to damage the board when desoldering the EPROM, much more so than on a 1G ECU. Never pry between the chip and the board. If you have any trouble getting the chip loose, you are much better off to give up doing it yourself than to have to pay to get damage repaired.
