[RESOLVED] Intake manifold gasket leaking?

97 GS auto

For a car that's idling, should spraying Carburetor Cleaner at base of the intake manifold change the idle? It idle dips down every time I spray around the gasket area?

Is there any other reason than a leaking gasket?

i may be wrong but that sounds like that could be the only thing that could be the problem double check your vacuum hose's just in case ther could be a small split or crack just enough where it want raise your rpms at idle

It was the intake manifold gasket.

For newbies that are having steady but high rpms. here is a method to check for leaks. Please note there is a little danger involved but its extremely easy and fast.

While the car is idling, spray Carb cleaner at places you want to check for vacuum leaks. Spray hoses,gaskets, throttle bady etc... If there is a leak, you can hear a change in the engine sound.

Please do not spray spark, flame or any really hot surface like exhaust system. This can catch fire.

you can use water too. but not on a huge leak. it will drop the idle if you find it and steamm will come out of the exhaust. this is how my mechanic found an IM gasket leak when i first got into eclipse's. plus you dont have to worry about catching yourself on fire.
