Hello DSM fam i have a 98 mist eclipse rs and i am leaking oil at first i thought it was coming from the oil pan took it to the shop and had him look at it to see where it was coming from. I told him where i thought it was leaking from he but he told me it wasent it was from above it. I took a closer look when i got home and found that its leaking from the intake manifold? I did not know it could LOL but i want to know what are the steps to do this jpb? And how long is this fix going to take? Any info can help thanks. I am also going to do some looking up more on this fix.

You're not going to be leaking oil through the intake manifold, since those are only air passages, unless you have a cracked head. Most likely it's from the valve cover, a picture would help us diagnose it better.

Sorry to be that guy but it's gasket* :D now onto business! The bottom center stud on the exhaust manifold passes into an oil galley. My bet is it's leaking from there.
Lol it dont bother me i know have a spelling prob anyway im not sure what you mean can u sent a pic or something so i can see what you are talking about thanks.

The picz were takin from behind the engine under the intake manifold on the left passager side of the car so the stud i want to look for thats leaking is in back? You said exhaust manifold im talking about intake manaifold where the throttle body is unliss i was told something differnt? WTF!!

Pics don't help at all to hard to see what area your trying to point out. It's most likely the valve cover gasket which is directly above the intake. Can you take a pic of that area. Also it may help to clean it all off and run the car for a bit and watch really close to where the oil is coming. This way your not just guessing but can say oh there it is I see it. :) valve cover gasket is a super easy fix by the way.

The odd thing about that is i felt all around the valve cover and found nothing but ill look again and do what you suggested and i do know to use break cleaner? Well thats what i was told to use to clean off oil.

Yup that will work just fine, brake cleaner and a rag. If you can get a better pic for use we might be able to see what's leaking. The pics are to zoomed in to see where your at. Is this by the trans side or timing belt side? Does the oil smell like regular oil or gear oil?

Well from what i know its the oil i put in the engine and have to refill it about every week i sat a half ct but and way ya ill go and see but if your looking at the engine from the timeing belt side its right down by the intake on the corner. I found this pick on google and if the oil is leakinging from the valve cover it would be where the arrow is at dripping down idk. Im new to this tyoe of stuff and learing as i go and this is my first car.

So it's leaking between the head and block? That could mean your headgasket has failed bro.
I dont know im pretty sure its not i only posted that pic from google and said if it were to look there it would have to drop down to the intake manifold than down to the oil filter and oil pan. Someone said where i thought it was leaking from because the intake is just a air passage. So that would leave the valve cover and are head gasket?

Ok so as of right now everything is pointing to the head gasket so im going to see about that tomorrow. I will let you know if i find anything new. Thanks everyone for all the help

Yes exactly would mean either valve cover gasket or headgasket. Seems like a pretty major leak if you need to add that much oil. Have you pulled your spark plugs by chance to see if they are dry? There's 4 gaskets in the spark plug tubes that seal the valve cover to the head. Those are notorious for leaking and I've changed countless ones on 420a's. These will come with the new valve cover gasket if you need that. For oil leaks always start at the top and work your way down. If there's a lot of oil everywhere clean it all off and start over. This way your not tricked and actually can see the leak area.

When you clean, Spray the rag not the valve cover so you dont ruin the rubber seal if it is still good. Check your oil on the dipstick, is it milky or gray?
Nope its not but i think its getting darker i put all new oil in when i replaced my oil filter when i thought that was leaking. Smart thinking about useing a rag and ya i will start from the top and work my way down question tho if it is one of both i would most likely have to drain the oil out once i find the leak in eather location right?

The amout of oil i said i had to put in was more of a guess but im pretty sure its not that much but seems like it is only because i use to have " forgive me for saying this LOL" a bmw well my wife did and it seemed like it was burning through alot of oil and seemed to have to replace the oil all the time thankfully we no longer have that car nice car but a pain to work on it got totaled in a car the accident we was in thankfully none of us was seriously hurt cuz we got hit pretty dang hard. The driver was txting and driveing people really do need to relaxe your phone is a distraction and should really not use there phones while driveing its dangerous and can lead to someone loseing there life.
