I was thinkin to delete my muffler and put a straight pipe instead how would performance be i know it would be loud but would it make a difference at all? I heard i will be able to hear the turbo threw the exhaust without a muffler and its better for turbo car? i have a 3" dp no cat with 3" exhaust right now.

Few things,

Track use = Legal Street Use = Illegal

YOu'd be contributing to more pollution

Power Gains for a Turbo Car = xx Can't give you a solid answer but You would gain some hp.. N/A Engines not so much you would need some back pressure..

^^^^^^^

Way incorrect information. A muffler has ZERO affect on emmisions. Noise yes. Every state is different. With that said, we have been running straight pipe exhausts on dsms for years here in colorado.

You won't feel the power gains, but they will be there.

With that said, GO FOR IT.

Mufflers are not a pollution control device beyond "noise pollution".

Also, back pressure is a myth, its flow v. velocity, back pressure is bad no matter what induction type the motor is.

Just get yourself a race style muffler instead. It's a straight through peforated design, no chambers.

Thats a terrible idea unless its just a track car and your towing it there. Thats just asking for police enforcement.

You guys are ####ys. It sounds great and is not loud at all. It is not like police just wait for every modified car to pass them by. And I am willing to bet you have never seen or heard such an exhaust in person.

I drove around for over two years before making my car a full time race car. And this is my exhaust.

Please, please come to Rhode Island and drive that thing around. Let me know if you manage to get out of the state after a solid day of driving without 10 exhaust violations.

Are you facking kidding me? What the hell is that contraption?? It looks like Frankenstein.

When I upgraded to a 3" DP and Thermal Exhaust on my last build I got pulled over constantly and was told I needed to change it back to stock. Drive that thing anywhere in MN. I dare you. Hell the orange paint and crusty bumper will get it pulled over.

I've driven around everywhere with a loud ass straight 3" exhaust and never got hassled. One of the guys i know had a turndown style exhaust pipe off the downpipe, and never got hassled either. It just depends on where you live. You can drive around anywhere with a loud exhaust around here and not get botherd.

Not my problem where you guys live. But than again I don't drive like an ass everywhere. We also have another mirage with the exhaust going through the hood. It was a 5" out the hood at one point. Went to a smaller turbo and is now a 3.5" out the hood.

I still say do it and not worry about it. It is no where near as loud as a N/A car with out a muffler. The turbo, especially a mitsubishi turbo does a good job keeping the noise down.

The car was red and the bumper was no worse than any other 20 year old car.

That contraption is a GT42 sized turbo with a bottom mount manifold under the hood of a tiny 89 dodge colt.

my car had straight 3" pipe coming out of the back bumper when i did my exhaust. i did receive a ticket once (also have no cat, the state trooper saw the flex pipe and thought it was a cat *whew*) but thats not why i changed it. the class i wanted to run in required a street legal muffler.

only reason i originally had the straight pipe was because i didnt want to buy a cheesy rice muffler and i didnt want to shell the cash out for a hi-flow one.

HA! I live in MN and out of 5 years of having my car (before I sold it) with a VERY loud exhaust, I was only pulled over ONCE for exhaust only because it was by a state trooper. Where I live they don't care if it's loud as long as it's not TOO loud, then you'll have a problem or going to the cities you'll be pulled over left and right down there.

You won't see any measurable gain, you'll sound like a tractor, but it's your car...

yea you guys are a bunch of ####y's haha i drive around like this. straight pipe no hood and no bumper. LOL well i have a hood now but still no bumper.

"Fast with class" replaced by "Fast".
