I searched but it's all 6 bolt related. I have my motor pulled and would LIKE to replace my mains just to be on the safe side since the motor is out, and to help against any chances of CW. Questions, can I just order a set of OEM bearings and slap them in and retorque the mains that were on there and be good? Or do I need to plastigage and whatever else is needed?

I was reading that using ARP's would require needing ya to align hone cause of the higher clamping force. So not wanting to do all that. Not wanting to tear the motor down. Just trying to do some good CW preventive maintenance if possible. Suggestions? Thanks.

I'd start by measuring your endplay. What if you took a reading of .004"? Would you still replace the main bearings?

Well, here's what was happening. I had to get a new starter and when pressing in on the clutch, the flywheel was hitting it. Let off, it was quiet. I fabricated a spacer for the starter and all was good. But sounds like enough play to me without having to measure it.

Anyone?

I don't know if you need to align the mains when you use arp's. People do without it all the time. Now don't be confused with the rods. If you use arp's on stock rods they will need to be honed.

Plastigaging is a must to know for sure you are in the spec. and i would also check the end play. If all is well, then put the bearings in and you are good to go.

Thanks. Happen to know if the stock main bolts can be reused? Or would they need to be replaced? I think I'd rather hold off on the arp's until I get my other engine built. Don't wanna take any chances of it needing to be align honed.

Sweet. Thanks. I wasn't sure if they were stretch to yield bolts like the head bolts.

When useing arp main studs, I have seen some motors not need honed, and some need it! My motor in my car needed to be bored/honed when I installed arp mains, last year! You can re-use you're stock main bolts, I have numerous times in motors I have built, without any issues..

^^
Black, beat me to it!!!
