i used a spare tire carpet cover and turned it around and bolted it in. i think it looks pretty good. and it holds groceries well under boost :thumb:

I've been contemplating how I'm gonna go about doing this, though it has nothing to do with weight reduction, but more or less give off the impression that it really IS a two seater. People see the rear seats and think they'd be fine sitting back there....till they sit back there.

In this process now. I bought a roll of auto-carpet from ACC that matches some new carpet from them also. For now, just going to carpet over the area. (removed the spare-tire tub too, so it's more flat/nice looking) I'll eventually be building a removable stereo box to bolt in using the stock latch hooks for the seat backs. And WAY down the road, when I've got a cage, removing that sheetmetal to make more room for an oversized fuel cell, which will then be seperated by a firewall behind the cage. Ah, the future... I need more money... :(

A few people have removed the rear seats and built in a box with storage bins stolen from an RX-7. A couple more have replaced them with a stereo box. Just remember, the back part of the seats is what actually weighs anything... the bottom part you can lift easily one-handed.. it's all just foam rubber. Less than ten pounds, if you're looking for weight reduction.

I removed the seats, seat belts, cargo cover and floor cover. I then sprayed the rear trunk panels and floor with truck bed liner spray (the rear speaker panels were sprayed with plastic paint). Turned out pretty good and is pretty durable (the trunk panels don't scratch when I dump my laundry basket in there). Recently though I've been getting paranoid thinking cops might get suspicious of my car if they see the whole back empty with a nice shiny strut bar, so I put back the cargo cover and made a quicky cover where the rear back rests used to be. The floor looks brownish because it's pretty dirty, and I couldn't get a whole pic because my seats don't fold down.

I just measured the area and cut a piece of wood and glued/staple gunned some vinyl on it. It's kinda' wedged snug, but I placed an L-bracket in the rear just in case it might want to slide down. You can see in the third pic a gold bracket. I thought at first that I'd be able to bolt the rear seat piece onto the cargo cover but they didn't line up, so I did the L-bracket thing.

hmm gave me somewhat an idea if it weighs nothing then ill just leave them in there... they are useless tho smaller ppl can sit back there but still have to scrunch up so i duno thx for the pics guys!

Yeah, I just got it at the Kragen (Kragen/Schucks/Checker) store over here. It should be in the paint/supplies section at your local auto parts store. It comes in a spray can or roller version. It costs about $6 a can.

You could get away with 1 can per "section," but the more coats you use the more durable it will be. The sections I'm referring to are:

-all the rear trunk panels (on second thought, you might want 2 cans for this)
-the floor section of the trunk
-the rear bottom seat section in the rear

This is in reference for a 1g FWD.

If you plan on spraying the plastic trunk panels just remember to clean it good and either lightly scuff the surface or use primer. For the floor sections I just cleaned the area really good and lightly scuffed. I did however leave the sound deadening material on, and the liner can chip off if you dig into it with a sharp object (I've hauled furniture and stuff in the back with no chipping though). One good thing about the liner is that if it does happen to scratch off, you can simply just respray the area and it will match with the rest of the liner because of the texture.

A fellow dsmer told me about this stuff (Slipstream), and he also suggested starting with light coats and then just add more coats after it dries.

This is what I did in the spyder.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get some other pics.
Yes, they are RX-7 bins. I cant remember the year but I believe i got them from the 2nd gen which was from 86 to 92. The two I found were in good shape but really dirty almost stained. I redid the top panels and really cleaned all the plastic. Good luck with your project. let us know how it goes.

I searched and can only find 3 threads on this. I really want to eliminate my rear seats but i need some ideas and PICS on what to put back there. Ive looked everywhere and i cannot find any pics of rear seat eliminations. I dont have car audio,so this basically is for these reasons (not having to drive more than one person, save a little weight ,and give the old talon the 2-seater look it needs).

I"m also interested in this. I was thinking of putting my 2 12" subs where the rear seats are currently. But I as well need some ideas and pics to get started.

Sort of a metal bench where the seats were. You have looked quite a bit though because I searched for like 10 mins. just now and didn't come up with anything. Maybe you can ask someone to snap a pic sometime.

Thank you santa claus for my new camera, BRB....I can post a pic of mine! haha
