this saturday i replaced my lifters with the new 3g revised ones hoping to get rid of the terriable tick coming from my head, well after a few shots of oil to the eye and 3 hours and a bottle of oil i was done, ever since then the tick has gotten louder and starting to scare me, i notice a drop in oil presser on the stock gauge, i heard its supposed to stay in the two bars and at idle mine drops real low and then when i wot it it only goes about half way up, i dunno if this has n e thing to do with it, i am also conviced it more than a lifter tap its a valve tap, is there anything i should try, also is a head swap in my future, how hard is it to do? i think i clould handle the whole thing except the timing belt, i dont know how to put it back on, also if it help my engine has 109xxx and its orginal to my knowage, just had timing belt serveice and all those good things done, also checked oil level and refilled to a safe level, also allowed lifters to PRIME before starting, Thanks for you input

actually he said he primed them before starting. your best answers will come when you open things back up again, check the timing and do all the tests(compression and so on).

You can't really prime them before starting the car when they are in the car...you can empty them using the paper clip but the only way they get primed is by starting the car and letting them prime themselves with the oil pressure from the engine or you prime them when they are out of the car using the paper clip and dunking them in oil.

How long have you run the car since? I had the same problem when I did mine but it went away after couple of days. I remember reading a thread where people claim that's normal. However if you've been driving it since Sat, I would do a compression test. You didn't fill them up with oil did you?

First thing as for the priming in the VFAQ is says to prime the lifters by removing the Fuel pump Fuse and cranking engine over and over for a while then start the car, I was just doing what the vfaq told me to do, also i got the lifters took them out of there package and placed them right into the head and put everything back together i dont not put them into any oil or such. another thing is i have drivin the car for over 60 miles since last saturday, another thing i forgot to ad is staytuned i have noticed a good drop in oil pressure since the lifter install, u thing it might just be the cold?

thanks for the input so far

Tom

I've had my revised lifters in for about 2 months and they still tick a little. Maybe we just got crappy lifters.

No the cold should cause higher oil pressure...it does here for me anyways.
The reason the oil pressure is lower might be due to the lifters having a larger hole on the side of them. They were designed to allow more oil to flow into them and not get so easily gummed up. I thought those lifters had to be filled up and then drained and then placed in the car leaving a small amount of oil for start up. I just recently took mine out and cleaned them and I filled them once and drained them and placed them back in. They ticked pretty bad at first but after ten minutes they stopped and have not ticked again.

Yeah i noticed its accualy gets progressivly louder since you start the engine, when it frist starts it just gets louder, might be due to the engine ajusting idle but i still dont know, as for you guys telling me to do a compression test, i read up on it and i will prefrome it tommorow but what exactly will this tell me, if i have a bad valve, or something along them lines? also do u thyink an oil change would help this at all, i just am worried i am going to kill the engine thats why i did the lifter swap in the first place.

Thanks

Tom

probably jacked up a valve. i read that you took them strait out of the packagae and placed them into the head. You didn't say that you drained them. They may have gotten stuck fully up. they may have come that way from the factory, who knows. before i put mine in i make sure that i can compress them with my hand with very little force. after they are in i press down on every rocker making sure that they are still able to compress with little force, gotta rotate the engine a little to check them all but you knew that ;) anyway, after all that i broke off a damn valve anyway  what crap

Okay big update someone help me know I did a compersion test today, 205 cynder 1,190 cynder 2,190 cynder 3 ,190 cynder 4, Also when removed plugs i noticed on cynder 1 plug threads were covered in oil, the other 2 plugs where just black but no traces of oil, Also no i am getting white smoke when i shift, My T25 is dieing also i think, Let me know what to do next guys thanks,

Also these plugs are only two months old is this normal?

LMFAO u get white smoke when u shit?!??!?! LOL!!!

sorry i am of no help, but i couldn't resist, im sure others feel the same way. sorrry. its just so funny.

Those are some very high numbers for your compression test. You should see no more than 178 psi max across the board ....sometimes 180 psi if you have some carbon build up or a thinner head gasket and no more that 14 psi difference between your highest number and your lowest number.

The smoke means you have a cooked turbo for sure...that is exactly the symptom I had when mine went.

Puffs of light blue smoke.
