Hey BroDSMers,

I did my throttle body shaft seals today. What a pain! I had the hardest time taking those damn coolant hoses off! But now I finished the job have ran into some troubles ... :(

I have this throttle body

1st issues; Throttle sticks when closing, stays 1-2% open per ECMLink.
2nd issue; TPS Volts reads 0.65v at 0% (Issue??)
3rd issue; When WOTing at peddle I only see 85% open in link
4rd issue; when WOTing at throttle body I see 93% open in link

Before I did my seals, It was all mint. Full 0-100% range and perfect TPSVolt readings along with no sticking.

Where did I F**k so bad???

PS. I ordered the 03/89 to 07/92 elbow gasket and 03/89 to 06/90 TB to manifold gasket... I think I should of ordered the next gen gaskets... but they all line up and fit well... is this a problem? Can I let this fly?

Thanks Broskis!

i did mine 2x and the second time my throttle would stick so i had to take it back apart and loosen the 2 butterfly screws and center the butterfly and move the throttle and make sure it doesn't bind then tighten the screws .you might have to change the screws and put loctite on them . then put it back on car and make your adjustments

First, Id say that you need to readjust your TPS to try and bring the readings back in line. Then, Id also check to see if you wound the spring tight enough when you reassembled the TB. Most imporantly, however, the reason you are getting the throttle to open more by hand than by pushing the pedal is because your cable isnt set properly. Not many know this, but the proper way to set the throttle cable is to loosen the tension bracket, and then have a friend push the pedal to the floor and hold it. You then pull the bracket tight and snug the bolts down. Setting your cable this way ensures that the cable will have enough slack to allow the throttle to close all the way, and will absolutely open the throttle 100% when you floor the pedal.

Run the TPS adjustment tool to fix the throttle % assuming you don't actually have it open at the TB.

It should read 0.64v at 0% throttle.

3&4, run the TPS adjustment tool.

Alright, so I managed to take apart my throttle body off at lunch today ( 22 mins! OMG) . Now all magically, it's not sticking on closing whilst on the bench like it was yesterday. I guess it's fine now??

As for the readings, I must have slacked my cable while sliding the TB off the manifold as I forgot about the cable still being attached. And finish with a recalibrate in Link.
