having trouble installing the tranny after replacing the clutch assembly and flywheel. its really close and lined up just wont go all the way in, been at it and trying for a full day..any tips?

Hey local guy!
Did you use a clutch alignment tool when you tightened the pressure plate bolts?
Best bet if you don't have one would be to line up the clutch disc evenly all the way around so its centered.

Could be the starter ring not fitting inside the bellhousing? or does the disc not line up with the input shaft?
Are you trying to stick it with the drivers solid shaft still on the back of the block?

Assuming nothing is wrong (like the clutch plate not aligned) and the tranny isn't hitting something... it's usually just a matter of sticking it out and wrestling with it until the pins and input shaft all line up.

Sometimes it is a total PITA and seems to take forever, and other times it will almost fall into place. It's mostly a matter of finding the magic combination of angle and height.

When I pulled my tranny off it took me almost 2 days to figure out how to position it to get it back up in there. It sucked but you will eventually find the right angles and what not to get it in there, prepare to get frustrated and when you do walk away and then come back. good luck

Assuming that the engine is still in the car. Make sure you are not hitting the passengerside lower control arm frame area. I always have trouble because of this area. also try turning your axle splines to help aline the input shaft. hope all these little tips will help you out

go to the crank on the other side with a rachet and spin the crank a bit to align the teeth

Sounds like the input shaft isn't completely lining up with the clutch disc. Just twist/shake the tranny around, and if need be, lower/raise the engine accordingly to assist in sliding the tranny back on. You DID use a clutch alignment tool, correct? Assuming you did, like Sp1kE said, turn the crank a bit or spin the input shaft a little to help lining it up. Also, as far as lubricaion goes (this is the biggest mistake I see people make) be sure to lubricate all of the parts that require it like pur97tsifwd mentioned. Just whatever you do, DO NOT force the transmission on to the motor with bolts (don't start threading bolts through when the tranny and motor have a gap...you'll be asking for more problems).

the only grease i have is Grease Monkey in a can. Will that work? what kind should i use?

Did you remove the bolt out of the front motor mount? I did that with mine and it went in like it had butter all it. It was so easy.

When I went to put mine in after messing with it for 4 hours I just pulled the freaking motor back out of the car and bolted it up that way and dropped them both in. Was so much easier for me and took a lot less time for me

I raised my engine a bit lower than stock height (With the transmission already bolted).
Then, I put my transmission on the jack, raised her up (with all mounts off), got the transaxle side over the frame (This is the annoying part), and I used a sledge hammer against the jack to push the transmission closer (I'm working on wood in dirt).

I wrestled with her for an hour, and got it eventually. I just had to drink a couple of beers damnit!
