Okay so heres some history:http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/392339-yay-another-one-these-threads.html

Basically the engine needs a rebuild. We got the head off today and the cylinder walls have some scratches on them. I know that we have to get it bored out. That means new pistons right?

I suggested for my friend to use either 7bolt pistons or evo pistons. But in order to have those, they need to be oversized correct?

This is my first rebuild. I understand the 7bolt pistons need to be machined to work on the 6 bolt rods.

This is the tightest budget build, so were looking for the cheapest route possible.

Thanks in advance

if the problem is the cylinder walls then yes it will have to be bored out and have over sized pistons put in. ithink you can just get the coated 6bolt pistons from dsmgraveyard for pretty cheap and unless he is pushing alot of power then he should be fine with those maybe even just stock ones. make sure your valves are sealing and arent bent. bore will cost about 60 bucks at cheap shop plus new gaskets and rod/main bearings good time for the new lifters and timing components. it wont turn out as cheap as you think it will.

just noticed you live that close, if you guys need a hand putting it back together let me know i would be happy to help out.

Yeah man im sure we could use help putting it all back together.

But yes we are gonna have it decked, bored and hottanked. Just looking for the options for new pistions. We were gonna do new bearings and gaskets anyways.

I just need to know about piston options.

i would look into Gunn auto 303-943-3134 it is the cheapest guy i have talked 2. not that sure on the quality of his work yet. when i tear into my block ill see if all my pistons are still good kuz i have 2g pistons but just threw a rod through the block so i wouldnt doubt at all the the one piston is ####ed. i still have the other three and i think you can buy just a single 2g piston off dsmgraveyard for cheap as hell. and yes there is a little machine work that is needed to get the 2g pistons on the 6bolt rods

Yeah I know about the machining needed for the 6 bolt rod, but since the block is getting bored, stock 7 bolt pistons wont work right?

What are other cheaper piston options for .20 over? He isnt looking to make big power, thats why i thought 1g rods with 7bolt pistons would be great, and cheap

I have heard good things about topline brand 2g pistons. They are an oem replacement that are likely to be a far superior combination of materials to those used in the pistons in the early 1990s. Dont quote me on that but its just a guess. take the block to the machine shop and see what size pistons you will need. Also make sure the shop you choose has a torque plate for the 4g63. just a heads up because proper machine work is critical to engine longevity.
