ok so my last engine CW'd, fun stuff. It had 200k miles anyways so it was due for something to go wrong. I got a another used 7 bolt that the timming belt broke on and it had a little less than 100k on it. I want to do a rebuild and to get me a stockish very reliable car. I don't PLAN to do much racing just want a decent engine since now i'm mainly into bikes. The Bike is my daily and i race that, much faster than the car, LOL.

I plan to get:
5 angle valve job
all new valves just to be sure
APR head studs
get the head pressure tested
and the Top line Basic rebuild kit.

I want to keep the BS, cause from what i've head it does give you a little bit more vibration. I'd rather keep it as little as possible.

Top Line basic engine rebuild kit The kit includes: 8.0:1 4G63 pistons Rod bearings Mains B/S Bearing Freeze plugs 4G63 Timing Belt 4G63 B/S Belt Full Engine Gasket Set Front case covers Oil pump gears

now about the Top line Rebuild kit, unless i'm missing it, it doesn't come with a water pump, tensioner so i'll need to order that

What else do i need for the rebuild/60k tune up?

I suggest tensioner and idler pullies. Also check the valve guides out(have your machinist do that anyways).

Also why get a 5 angle valve job for the little power differance it will make and you not being the into racing the car I wouldnt spend the money on it.

i wouldnt get the top line stuff. i heard one too many stories of their products failing. since your building your motor, do it right the first time. go OEM.

agreed OEM Is best or 4g63ez.com has some good quality parts for oem rebuilds as well. I did a basic rebuilt on my 0ther 96 awd i am selling now and on a friends car, both still running good.

Topline is fine. Everyone has "heard" of topline products failing but you never see it. Topline is fine for everything. Where I would want to use OEM would be: water pump and timing belt & accessories.

I've run 3 topline oil pumps. They are fine. I've even run a topline water pump and it is still fine. I've run topline pistons, rings, gaskets and other misc pieces. All are fine.

But if you have the cash to spend, go OEM for a sort of "peace of mind."

If I already had the engine out for a rebuild, there's no way I'd put it back into the car with the balance shafts still in place. You say "reliable", -well I consider the BSs a risk you don't need to take. Besides, every sports car I've ever rode in vibrated a little... if you want a smooth ride, go buy a well used buick.
