Lol I just wanna see how you got the led to stay in place. How are they for night driving?

I'm not too sure how they appear at night while driving as I have not yet been able to drive the car due to the engine problem it had. I'm now rebuilding and upgrading the engine and won't have it on the streets til probably early March. I do know however, that the front LEDs are very bright and have a nice crisp glow and are suitable for driving with in low light, but not yet for darkness.

The LEDs are simply light strips I bought th at had an adhesive backing, same with the headlights. However, the headlight ones were way better than the tail ones and it's been a bit of a struggle getting even just the rear running lights (from the pic) to stay in place properly. This I why I say they aren't finished. I went with this setup as a temporary setup to see how I liked the turn out, which I love. My next step is to buy new tail lights (the same as what I currently have) and redo the entire system with circuit cards and individual LED bulbs and move away from using the strips. I also need to go pull a tail light harness for a 2G Talon from the salvage yard so I can have the wire setup I need so I don't have to go through splicing the eclipse harness. The head light LEDs will also be moved to circuit cards and seperate bulbs since I have a spare set of the black inside housings.

I like the tails, definently see the Audi A6 as your inspiration. I want to do something simular but run the LEDS along the top for the turn signals. What flasher do you use for the turn signals? Waytek, has a nice one.

well, the R8 and S4 were my inspiration (although the A6 is definately awesome[espesially the S6 with the V10]). i found some LED 1157 bulbs in white to match the LED strips but when they are on, the turn light pulse was barely visible. so i ended up swapping the bumper marker harnes with the turn light harness and installed 3 amber LEDs into the headlight housing were the turn lights go. so now it's all white except those 3 LEDs and they blink with the bumper lights now and the white ones are now on as running lights.:sneaky:

(and thanks for the link. i just looked and i gonna check it out more in depth later today. might get more ideas for my setup)

I like em. I would like see something this for a 1g. Not sure how it would play out for a 1g really.

if there's a will, there's a way. since i've received so much feedback on my setup and the post hasn't even been up for a full 24hrs yet, i may just go pull a set of 1G tail lights and 1GA/B headlights and tinker with them to start mods on those. several members have already asked me about 1G versions so i might take it up to produce something for that section of the DSM community. just so i have a starting point, what would you be looking for in design for 1G lights? i'm sure not everyone would want theirs identicle to others so i'm looking for multiple design ideas to expand on the modifications.

I was thinking something in the covers. Not the actual pop up (1ga > 1gb)

I will get a photoshop up asap.

that's what i had figured. i don't think i could do anything to the pop ups anyway due to them being sealed glass. i'm happy to help though, just let me know.

Here is what I was looking at. Something similar to newer Audi headlights.

Clear/White LEDs in the front possibly extending to the side. And amber LED turn signals.

Two ideas, either top row hooking down. Or bottom row. Unsure really if it needs to continue to the side part to look right.

I really love what you did with your tails. Unsure as to how to really pull it off in a 1g tail. Unfortunatly, as much as I dislike 1gbs I think it would really be best pulled off with a 1gb rear end.

I'm liking your photoshop. I'll start planning these out with the LEDs and seehow it goes. I'll give a shot to 1GA &B tail lights and let those of you interested, chose which you like best and go from there. One thing though, since you are liking my tail design, are you wanting to see one almost identicle for 1G or just something along the basic concept?
;)

In addition to my current designs, my first DSM was a 2G Talon and I loved the tail lights, but was always disappointed in how there was never any real option for altering their appearence without doing the entire eclipse rear swap. I will be working on designs for the talon rear for those who are line I was and don't want to convert to the eclipse lights.:talon:

As far as the tails go. I would love to see something along the basic concept of what you have on your 2g. Not exact clone though.

All I really have planned for mine is, and LED conversion to include making the middle section light up.

Sweet. Sounds like you have at least a good starting point. I will come up with something here over the next day or 2 and get back to you through PM to see how you like the outcome.:hellyeah:

I do want to make some to sell. I've received a couple requests already here on the forum as well as co-workers (non-DSM owners) wanting it done to their vehicles too. I haven't told anyone how I did it and I'm in the process of doing the mod to a friend's '02 civic (even though I hate hondas). I think for now, if I started up selling them, i'd only charge $50 for the labor plus the cost of shipping both ways and cost of the LEDs and wiring. I think that'd be fair for starting out.

Count me in. They look awesome! When you do finish them consider making a video showing them day and night, brake and no brake, and blinker. Both Headlights and Taillights.

And if you are serious about selling some, I'm serious about buying some!

I am serious about building them to sell, and glad to have another supporter. I will do the video after all is finished. But of course that's after I finish my R&D first.

Cool man, shoot me a PM when your done. I wanna be towards the top of your list! haha. I always thought our headlights would look good with the LEDs Audi Style since they are real long, but I'm not very savvy in that kind of stuff. The tails look awesome as well. Makes it look real modern.

Not a problem. Might not be for awhile for getting these done up mass production style, but I am willing to mod some for those of you in the DSM community that are serious about having it done. I still need to build up my parts supply to kick this off. I have 2 others as well as you now that I can use as like a trial run to see how much more of an impact this mod has with others. If you do seriously, with out a doubt want it done, I'll be more than happy to do it (for any DSM owner for that matter), but to start out, you'd need to ship me your headlights so I can do it. The LEDs I've been using run about $80 in all, not including wires, connectors, and so forth. I forget who I told, but they asked me about what I would charge. I told them, the cost of shipment both ways, cost of LEDs, and about $50 for labor. Keep in mind, shipping cost will be different for each location. I would like to make a little profit off these mods, but since I'm only starting out, I'm trying to keep it low, yet fair. Once I perfect the mods with the circuit cards and it's all nice and professional looking, price will go up for parts and labor, but again, that won't be for awhile. Let me know what you think. I am flexible on making a deal....

well here you all go. the rear lights out in the light....:hellyeah:

Just a thought...maybe continue the led strip through the center piece.take the center apart sand the paint or whatever it is off the inside and it will show light through.I lit my center with 3 h3 bulbs and it gives a nice look IMO I have it tinted with vht nite shades too.

Looks sick bro! Yeah, I would second the led strip through the middle tail. And night shade the tails could be a yay/nay thing. Kinda gives a cool machine look without it. But it could look equally pimp with the nightshade.

I'm not too sure about adding a strip through the center, not a bad idea, I just don't want my setup to look over done. I do want to add the shades to the lights, but I want to find (or make) ones that are not glossy so it matches the center piece. I do agree with TANRO though, without shades I does have a nice mechanical look to it. I just don't want anyone on the streets to see any of it until it lights up.

Well tonight I did the LED headlight mod to my friend's civic and to answer the brightness question a few of you inquired about, they are bright. I only used half the amount in his lights as I did mine, so I'm guessing mine are way brighter and can be used in lue of the low beams until it's completely dark out. For those of you who still want the mod, let me know, I'll be starting it all real soon (and that goes for 1Gs too, once I get the design finished I'll post pics).

You can easily achieve this with VHT Niteshades. It does not dry with a gloss to it. You actually have to wetsand it and then spray clear over it to get the gloss.

I am sure you could find some satin, or low, or even no gloss clear coat. And skip the wet-sand.

Also. How much would you say you spent on materials? How much labor would charge for a set of 2g lights? all 4 corners OFC done similar to yours. Feel to get creative if you dont me running around N. Alabama with a set of cloned lights.

I should be picking up a 2g GST soon. I would absolutely freaking love the tails, however I really am leaning towards a Projector Retro Fit with the halo light with a cut off in the halo done to match the angle of the hood.
