I have a pioneer radio in my car. I have it all wired right but im having problems with it. The radio before did this to. If I turn it up to loud it turns off and sometimes its not even turned up loud. it will keep shutting off and on. it does it constantly not randomly either. once it starts it takes a while for it to work. it works better if I wedge something between it and the dash like its pushing down on the radio. what could this be. I been trying to fix it for a year now. Please help if you can. thank you very much

do you have subs or any other aftermarket speakers? also double check you wires, make shure you done have a bare spot that could cause a short.

I don't have subs or anything. but the speakers are aftermarket. ill check the wires

also when you put the radio in, how did you connect the wires? butt conectors, sodering, ecletrical tape? i used butt conectors and somtimes when i hit bumps the radio would loose power. so i sodered my wires and havent had any more issues.

sounds like a loose wire connection. pull the radio out and check all the connections and make sure they are snug-tight!

Redo your ground wire to a better spot. That's a common result of a bad ground

I used electrical tape. Ill re do them all. hopefully that works.

Wire nuts works better than elec. tape. Use the small ones for 22-18g wire.

I like to use the crimp style butt connectors. I would check your ground connection. Try tapping into a different ground wire, such as the one for the cig lighter.

DSM setups uses chassis for common ground, but there is another ground that's used specfically .. and that's through the key. It's called system ground. That wire comes from the harness and is not tied to the chassis ground. When the radio is bolted in the double DIN opening, the frame is the chassis ground for the radio, for this ground is tied directly to the negative connection of the battery.

You can't use them together.

Your radio power wire may not be connected to a "true" power source (one that goes to the battery positive). A non true source is one that appears to have power but actually goes through another device first before the battery (like the dimmer switch). Measure the voltage on the radio power wire (not at battery) while you change the volume - it should not change.

i would strongly recomend you not to twist wires together and cover them with electrical tape. you will end up having a wiring nightmare in your car. use wire nuts, buttconectors as stated above or soder them.
