Ok, I did search and I got this: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/custom-fabrication/390951-radio-delete-plate.html but this is not what I am looking for.

I have the factory plastic panel that goes over the heater controls and houses the radio and that little pocket, well I am not using a radio and would like to just put a block off plate similar to the above modification, but only in the square as I will still be using my heater controls. I would like to use this panel to house the switches and probably use their idea and have a power converter and the OBD plug there.

Is there a plate you can purchase pre-made like that, or how would I go about custom making one? I could superglue some plexi glass on the back but I don't think it would hold up to repeated use...

I didnt have a radio in my 1g when I bought it, I didnt waste money on a bracket for the single din deck so I just took some plexiglass and ground it down with a dremel until it fit. Then ground a hole in it for the deck to slide in.. Just be creative.. Heck even a piece of sheet metal could work just fine!

This is probably a little harder though... I found this pic off google, where the radio and the bottom pocket are is where I need filled. There is a slight indent to the plastic surround. On the backside looks like close to maybe 1/16" thick so I cant really make a bracket to hold anything there, and super gluing a panel in there wont hold up to much with repeated use.

if its like the 1g, couldnt you just remove the little square trim from around the radio area, make a template for size and 4 screw hole locations, transfer to anything (sheet metal, plastic, wood etc) cut and drill. screw it in. replace trim?

It isnt large enough to screw anything to....that fiberglass idea might be the best bet....unfortunately I don't know the first thing about fiberglass.

funny thing, When I was looking to a stereo install kit for my eclipse, the only thing the shops carried locally were single din adapters with the bottom blocked off (i wanted the pocket din in the bottom to put my cds)

try some local stereo shop and ask to see the kit, im sure they will carry the one with the blocked off din

or check this link out

PS the term "avenger center swap" sounds NASTY!! ;)

Haha I still have that pocket if your looking! I was going to toss it with all the stuff I have replaced.

I've seen people use plexiglass and a dremal as stated above.. Once it fits then they put either gauges or switches into it.. Don't be one of the guys that puts neons on the inside like people who have Chondas !

Also type in D.I.Y car mod's ... in a search engine like google.. Find the forums for either dsm's or other car forums you will be amazed at what you can find an the things people come up with to mod things them selves.

I put a update on facebook looking for anyone who does plexi, and someone off another forum I go to (Luxury4play) offered to run to their local junkyard this week and see if they can grab a console section and make a metal backed unit that is fiberglassed smooth for me. I'll see what their idea looks like and then go for it. Definitely using the OBD port relocation!

Oh and don't worry, no neons! It isn't a show car...and I don't want to show off anything I don't want stolen.

J.b. weld will hold anything you want. I had a piece of sheet metal my friend cut on his plasma cutter held onto the surround trim by j.b. weld and it never came off. I had toggle switches and my wideband in there and everything. I wish I took pictures but it was in my 98 and I let it go with the car when I got rid of it.

Good idea. Let see what they come up with..

And thank GOD for no neons.. LoL

i would do a black plexi one for you if you wanted one i would need your center trim piece you pay for shipping and the plexi.......the plexi would be permanently attached to the trim piece.... no screws.

Pull the trim piece off, get four L shaped brackets and a piece of plexi. Use the trim to make a template for the plexi just big enough to fill the opening. Then affix the L brackets to the radio mounting bracket in the location of the stock screws. Adjust the depth according to your needs to flush mount the plexi. Then affix the plexi to the brackets. After that is done all u need to do is drill out the openings for your gauges and switches and your golden. It really is a simple task your asking to do and is the same as installing the lower delete or bin, except you will be making your own brackets to mount from and you will also be making it a solid plate. U can use any material too, alluminum, steel, plastic, carbon fiber, fiberglass, tin u name it. Anything will work really. Carbon fiber and fiberglass however will offer you more options on having more than just a flat surface.
