Ive been looking into getting a Radar detector but I honestly don't know too much about them. Do you guys know any good brand for a decent price?

go with a valentine one. they are expensive...about 400 or so. they will tell you how many radars/lasers it's reading, and in what direction they are coming from. also it can be kept up to date by uploading the new info for radars and new bands police use change. i think it's a cd that comes with it. i been thinking about getting one recently myself. just dont go with a cordless one. as the battery dies, it's ability to pick up radars and lasers weakens.

I been using Whistler ( the better models) over the last 15 years. They do well. Kept me out of many tickets. Just have to know how to use them. The police in my area usually cruise around with there radar on anyways. Sometimes they use the lazer. Thats just a point and pull the trigger deal. Mine picks up the lazer at the time of intercept and flips out. At least I know to make a run for it. Gives me a good jump start on the cop.

Put it in a easily viewed area by the driver (like a gauge) so you can easily monitor it.

The Valentine One is the way to go imo.

Just to let you guys know and to give you a heads up, they dont work. I am in Law Enforcement and police don't drive around with their radar on, they presh a button that turns the radar on when the car is in range. So by the time the radar detector works, they have already clocked you. I have seen it done many times so don't waste your money on them. The only time they would even have a chance of working it if the cop was on the freeway clocking cars on the median but even then they don't run their radars constantly, they press the button to clock the car and it reads way before you have time to hit your brakes.

Escorts are top of the line and the 9500ix is the bad boy of radar detectors. Best Buy carries them. It gets a whole lot less false alarms, is GPS powered and autolearns not on every click of a false alarm but through AI also. It also has the biggest map of red ticket lights and if you're living somewhere (like some places in Florida) where those are the easiest way to come home to a ticket of over $100 bucks waiting for you in the mail, then you'll appreciate it.

Agreed! But it varies state to state, county to county!

Valentine 1 gets my money. Pricey but IT'S COOL since it's illegal in some states so that should tell you something... LOL. I think they have an ad or something that say's if you get a ticket with the valentine, they'll pay your ticket. J/W if that's true.
But I did lots of research and many people loved the valentine one. Get lucky and land a use one for cheap on ebay!

when i researched this 2 years ago for mine, valentine and escorts where the two bad ass ones, and what i would go if i had the money. If you go that route you are looking at spending around $400 I ended up getting a whistler which once again, at the time, was the best on the market, for the money, i paid 120, and it was suppose to beat any radar detector on the market up to $200.Granted technology is always changing, search google for i believe it is "radar roy" he does a ton of test and gives good reviews. Also check your state laws on owning a radar detector.

Well, its illegal in Michigan to have one its a 500 fine. In my corba manuel, shows the laws which state its legal/illegal to have radar decetor. Becareful, man.

Depends on brand, some stores will let you buy their floor display model they have on the wall, and would knock off a few bucks. Thats what I did, saved quite abit since it was close to the holidays.

From people I've heard it from, if an officer finds it in your car then have right to destroy it as it's providing evidence of unlawful activity (speeding).

Why do you need a detector anyway? Being safe (you and others) is better than reckless driving.

not where i am. saves me all the time:D

i have the escort 8500 blue and its saved me from ALOT of tickets, best $400 ive spent for not getting a ticket, never had false alarms and will detect from a mile away, only thing is that it doesnt tell you which way the cops radar is but who cares its saved me

I also see no need for a radar detector. Just don't drive like an idiot.

In New York the coppers seem to have a habit of pulling people over and giving tickets that say your going 20 mphs over the limit. Which is an extra 60-80 bucks. I got pulled over 2wice already for that, fought it and won. I wasn't one to avoid the headaches of going to court because some asshole wants to pull me over just to fill his quota for the month.
