im looking at buying a ESD9860 radar detector from cobra. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/electronics-frsradios-scanners/cobes10banra.html

im just confused on what it does to stop cops from giving me tickets... can someone fill me in on how it works, i know that the laser detector tells me if a cop is targeting me but by then its too late. and hte radar detector too. What will it do to make sure that no cops are around.... will this tell me if there are cops around me or what.??? hopefully you can help. basically i want to know what the functions of this thing do... and how i cna be protected from getting tickets

Then that wasn't truly one-on-one. The cop was shooting at a car in front of you (maybe far enough away so you couldn't see it) with the first blast, your detector picked that up and you slowed down, and then he hit you with the second blast. If there hadn't been that first "faint signal" to alert you to slow down, he would've nailed you.

It was five in the morning and there were no cars in front of me

there is a very small window of time for you to slow down after getting hit with instant on. laser youre fvcked. laser and instant on are almost exclusively used on the highway when there isnt alot of traffic on the road, because most detectors(on the higher end) and pick up bounces of instant on ka off other cars the cop tagged(and in some cases you might get lucky and catch a laser bounce before you get tagged). i have the valentine 1 and i admit it does have a lot of false alarms, but once youve been driving with it for awhile you wont want to be without it.
