I removed the head bolts close to the wall of the head. There may have been 10 of them. I have the Manual To my Vehicle which says the head bolts were 13 mm allen which they weren't. But I see 3 gold bolts in the middle- Are they supposed to be removed? Anybody know what size they are? I tried a 1/2(13mm) allen and that seems to be 1-2 sizes to big. I searched and couldn't find an answer. Thanks for your help!

Those 3 ALLEN headed bolts in the middle DO NOT GET REMOVED. They are there because of the casting process in manufacturing the head. Do not remove them. The head bolts should be 12 point 11mm or 13mm (I can't remember) Cap Head #8 Bolts. Should be 10 of them (like you stated), if your having problems removing the head, don't forget the "manifold stay" that is bolted to the HEAD and BLOCK on the back of the engine under the intake, its held on by three 14mm headed bolts.

Good luck, hope that helps.

Actually a 6 bolt block / head will have stock allen bolts instead of 12 point bolts. I forget what size but why don't you just go to the hardware store and buy 13 and 14mm allen sockets for like $5 a piece and return the one you don't use? Don't use standard size allens .... it's not worth stripping those out for that.

Stock 6 bolt allen heads are 10mm....There is a total of 10 bolts as well. They're not too hard to remove.

I would of Felt like a real @ss if I ended up removing them- Thanks for your help guys! Broke the head free today! Bent 16 Valves and damaged two pistons- The same day i installed ACT 2100 Clutch and findanza flywheel. Could that of helped it out any?
