In this link what it the function of part 04237? Why is it different for a NT head vs a Turbo head?

Cylinder Head

Its for oiling I belive. But also could be for the coolant system. I have never taken that part off a head before. The major difference is that the intake camshaft is larger. As far as the head its self not much. other than it comes with a plug instead of a banjo bolt for the turbo oiling.

EDIT: I will go pull it off one of my spare heads, could also be for the EGR.

Okay looked at one of my heads it is part of the oiling system for the hydraulic lifters.

I don't know it's technical name, Darren at FFWDconnection said they call it the "doghouse" at their shop, he also said they didn't have a "favored model" when i was asking him about the difference in the 3 types of them you will find.

It controls the oil flow to the head along with it's pressure from my understanding. There's 3 models you will come across.

The one in that pic is the "rare" piece and the most desirable becuse it has that spring loaded relief valve in it. That's also the one i run on my current head.

Then there's 2 other ones. ONe is smooth on top and kinda triangular, and the other looks like the outline of the passages can be seen in the top of it, but both latter models i mention lack the relief valve on the bottom like the one at the OFH.

Some one posted a pic of the first 2 in a thread i had a while back, but i can't remember what section it was in. EDIT: Here's the link http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyl...ons-excessive-oil-pressure.html#post151722127

I noticed a difference in my turbo and lifters after installing the 1st type with the relief valve, as i had way too much oil poressure from the BSE and although i got it down with porting it was still too much for a turbo and lifters so in went the "doghouse" with relief valve and ii haven't had any trouble since.

Crap, how did I miss your post with that info?? I thought I was watching the threads you had about the oil pressure.

I don't have one of the spring loaded relief valves for the head. My two are just the pass through blocks. Hmmm...

Believe me, i'm going to try and dig up a few more of these little gems! I HAD 2 of them, but we experimented with putting the second one on a friends car that is a BSE'd fully built aluminum rod motor and he said it felt like it pulled "cleaner" in the top end. (he shifts at 9500 ) I'm not sure if he was having some slight lifter pump, or if it was his imagination. But, he wanted to keep the doghouse w/ valve on his car when it was all said and done. And after all he's done for me i couldn't say no. Now i have to dig up a spare for myself again :/
