I was trying to check the timing on my car but I have a question.

This is all on a 2nd GEN Talon TSI AWD.

Is this the timing mark on the block??

This is the timing mark on the sprocket plate correct?

This is how the timing gears should align correct?

Sorry about the crappy pictures, it was super dark and all i had was my iPhone to take the pics.... You would think the 3G would have a better camera.. LOL Anyways...

When I align the sprocket plate timing mark with the timing mark on the block, the cam gears never line up. I turned the engine over by hand, clockwise 15 full rotations just to be sure, each time that I would see that the sprocket timing mark lined up with the mark on the block, I checked the camgears and never once did they line up. They were always quite aways off.

Am I not checking the timing properly? when I was checking the timing before, I was just going by the camgears because I assumed they wouldn't ever line up if the timing was off. What do you all think? I haven't touched the timing. All I did was change the crank angle sensor, battery, and ECU but that didn't require me to remove/adjust the timing belt.

I'm waiting to get ahold of a 1G CAS Pigtail to finish my harness so I can see if this thing will finally start but the timing had me a bit worried...

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks

Check out the VFAQ as it'll show you how to check the timing, as well as where all the timing marks are.
Timing Belt VFAQ

The first two pictures show both of the timing marks for the crankshaft sprocket. Those should be aligned with each other. You can kind of gauge if the cam gears are lined up, but it's better to look at them straight on and make sure they're lined up with the head (look at the gasket line behind the gears). Also take a straight edge to them to help you line everything up. And don't forget to check/time the oil pump sprocket!

Ok, I well i thought I had looked up the right info but I looked at the 2G NT after your post.. I can't see clearly in the VFAQ where my timing marks are supposed to be. Based on the pictures I posted, you can't just tell me if those are the right timing marks?

Make sure that when you align the cam marks that bot dowel pins are at the 12 o'clock position. and you can check the crank by pulling the number 1 spark plug and finding its tdc then the marks on the crank should be fairly close
