Yeah, so 5th gear wont stay in in my car and kinda grinds so I'm preeeeetty sure it's the 5th gear nut. :notgood: Well I'll do that tomorrow and drive the other car to work in the AM.

So I've been in there before but I was wondering:

Has anyone used loctite (red) on those end nuts before? To keep this from happening again. It'd be nice not to have to worry about it in the future is all. But I don't want things mixing in with transmission fluid even if there is time to dry. Thanks guys!

"Stake the nut?" Sorry, don't know what that one means. I'll look into it though.

You hammer the threads out of shape with a chisel so they can't unthread. Common practice in gearbox assembly, but tends to make rebuilding troublesome- rebuilders don't think a transmission will be re-rebult.
Go wild. Screw red, get LocTite green.

Well, I'll go with Red then. Green is... well I have never seen it but I'll probably want to take this apart sometime. So if Red is safe then Red it is. I don't want to ruin any threads. I like this transmission!

Well forget all that! Looks like Loctite wont be used anytime soon.

Pulled the cover off and saw that the end nut had started to chew its was in to the end case cover. Didn't go through it but still. I'm gonna need me a new nut and an end cover. Order that Monday I guess.

I would strongly suggest having a professional look at the transmission to see if it needs a rebuild. It could easily need more than just an end cover and end shaft nuts.
