My thoughts too brother, just I've always tried to find insight on thermal efficiency.

Looks like one hell of a " full-boogie" motor, good luck to you man.

Keep us all in the loop. :)

Well, took the Eclipse out for a spin today -- this is the first time it has left the garage in 1 year, and I put around 30 miles on the new race motor.

I ended up figuring out my fuel pump issue -- after I replaced the crank angle sensor, I still had the issue of having the fuel pumps not priming when the key is turned on. The crank angle sensor now was working and no fuel, so I went through the entire wiring harness, MFI relay, fuel pump relay, my hardwire relay, ignition switch, crank angle sensor, fuel pump checks, etc. It ended being a broken black/white wire at the coolant temperature sensor plug. It was not even visible as it had broken in the connector itself behind the grommet. I only found out it was that when I hard-wired the MFI relay to a toggle switch to turn the fuel pumps on and ran the car. The coolant temp was showing 7-degrees on the AEM when it should have been running 180-185-degrees. I thought I had torched the fuel pump driver on the AEM otherwise. Now, the fuel pumps turn on and the radiator fan properly turns on at running temperature.

The car needs some tuning time, and I made a rough tune to run it on today. Overall, it turned on with the first turn of the key and ran smoothly.

    It sounds MEAN!
Between the fast revving of the engine, the huge-ass turbo and the race exhaust, it sounds way meaner than my old stroker/GT40R/race exhaust setup because of the much larger turbine wheel. As well, the clutch noise was minimal and you could barely hear the chatter when you depressed the clutch.

The Prototype Quarter Master 7.25" V-Drive clutch disks worked FLAWLESSLY, and really reduced the decelleration chatter and had perfect engagement/disengagement characteristics. They were straight drop-in and I only bled the clutch hydraulic line and didn't need to readjust the clutch master cylinder at all.

The engine, turbo, transmission and clutch all worked flawlessly.

As well, with only 1 11" SPAL puller fan running on the radiator, my coolant temperatures were around 180-185-degrees with a 180-degree thermostat while normal driving. At idle for 15 minutes afterwards, I saw as high as 190-192 degrees on a brand new motor. Not bad whatsoever!

I will need to change the oil now, and pull the plugs before starting to tune the car later on this week, or next week.

It was really nice to drive the car again, and it all went flawlessly.

I had only one issue, my stainless steel ziptie used for the exhaust wrap on the wastegate dump tube wasn't installed tight enough, so I had to remove the wrap mid-drive, and will have to re-wrap the dump tube.

    Otherwise....It is absolutely fantastic!

I only revved it up to around 7000rpm during the drive with no load past 1-2psi. I have not yet tried to get on it as I need to do some tuning time and read the datalogs of my low-throttle stuff to work on the decel-throttle map and advanced idle stuff.

I am still guessing I will be seeing boost around 5500rpm, but I am not sure what amount I will be seeing by then.

I am planning on doing dyno-time at the end of August, or the first week of September up at Beyond Redline Performance in Green Bay, WI on their AWD dyno.

More than likely, this engine will be revving out past 9000rpm this year on the aluminum rods.

Did quatermaster applied this prototype design to the evo vii/viii as well? I need a replacement plate for my 6 bolt since i'm using bigger input shaft same as evo vii/viii for my new gearbox.

Quarter Master has not made any other gear-drive clutch disk prototypes other than my clutch unit so far. They wanted me to run it for a season and then ship it back to them for inspection. I will try and dyno the car at the end of August, or first week of September or so, and then do a track event in September. That is the goal at least.

I will drive the car a bit more on Thursday and try to get some tuning time on it. First, I will need to do an oil change, and do a full once-over on the car to make sure nothing has gone wrong. I will also need to re-wrap the wastegate dumptube before really getting on the throttle as a precautionary measure.

The old setup was an Eagle/Ross 2.3L combo with a butchered 2.4L crank in a 1999 7-bolt block on a Garrett GT4088R with a 0.95 A/R divided T4 housing. On the Magnus SMIM, it made 740AWHP/696TQ at 49psi on Q16. The same setup made 766AWHP/713TQ at 42psi on Q16 with the Beyond Redline Performance SMIM. The car also ran 9.96@143 with 641AWHP/567TQ tune. It has not been back to the track since Sept. 2007 when it ran 9's.

The new setup is a custom Groden aluminum rod/custom CP piston/ stock 2.4L 7-bolt crank in a 1999 block with a Borg Warner S400SX 74mm turbo with a 1.1 A/R divided T4 housing and a Bullseye 11.5" race compressor cover.

The goal is 900+AWHP and 8's by the end of 2010.

This will take to long for me to run originally but as soon(IF) as they put this into production I will just replace the old/current style disk. SO far looks like a great unit. Make some big power and push that thing so we know what it's really got

Good to hear it is running. If you need someone to hold the laptop during some tuning sessions I will be glad to help. Basically I'd like a ride in that thing. The thing looked mean sitting in your garage on 4 jack stands, I can't image what it will look like going down the track.

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it!

I will still be doing most of the tuning myself, and will use Luke's expertise (Beyond Redline Performance) for final dyno tuning of the setup. It is still a cooperative effort.

Overall, the car is just too powerful to be tuned on the street whatsoever. The lowest boost level will make well over 600AWHP. It is simply unsafe.

I found a link that has a more complete description of the modifications done to last engine/turbo setup if you would like to look at it.

    Beyond Redline :: Performance Center

I am sure that there are things that are still missing off of that list, but there is substantially more listed than the profile on this site due to space requirements.

The clutch is absolutely AWESOME! The chatter is less than the standard twin-disk setup when used in conjunction with the Fluidampr crank pulley, and the clutch modulation has been perfect with excellent street characteristics.

I also just completed my first round of dyno-tuning at Beyond Redline this week (Thursday through Friday) and got some initial results.

We found limitations to my fuel system and potentially my ignition system.

Ran out of fuel pumps at 779AWHP/602TQ at 41psi. (only doing a partial run and letting off at 6700rpm when the boost hit 41psi).

I am going to rework the fuel system for dual in-tank pumps with independent feed lines to dual in-line fuel pumps to dual filters, and then run each feed line to both ends of a fuel rail with a center return line. We will then re-dyno at a later date to find the limits of the 1350cc injectors before upgrading to bigger injectors.

As well, we are having some phantom ignition issues that may be related to the fuel pumps or battery/alternator voltage, so we will wire in a CDI ignition box to confirm. I am guessing it is more likely my Odyssey PC680 battery as we had no ignition issues when the battery voltage was above 13V.

Overall, no major breakage, and I can drive the car back home to Milwaukee. Good news.

As well, I have now pushed my peak HP to 777 AWHP just getting into the tune and no where near the limits of this current turbocharger, which is up from the old GT4088R numbers of 750-766AWHP with a maxed out turbo.

The torque is substantially lower because I am not over-running the turbo as I was with the GT4088R.

Congrats sounds like you have a 900whp setup under your hood now with 45 psi and more fuel and a maxed out tune. Now your biggest problem will be traction :thumb:

Very good to hear. Once this clutch comes out to production I will pick up the guts for it. I already have the standard QM clutch.

Great numbers too Tim. Glad to hear that you have that much more in her too. Should be exciting to know that she really isn't breaking a sweat yet. :thumb:
