i have the n1 apexi exhaust and i have the silencer out right now, but if i were to put it on will it affect the performance in any way?

negligably(sp) ie. the quietness will be worth the small amount of horsepower lost...take it out for the track :thumb:

i have it out now, but cops are dicks here in nj, but i really dont wanna lose power but i guess if it isnt much then ill put it on. dunno, guess ill wait till i get a ticket first LOL

As far as i know keeping it in will yield more low-end torque (quick), with it out, there will be less low end torque and a higher speed as it can flow better.

I can tell you that when i ditched the hollow coke can for an OEM mitsu muffler, it was quiet, and a hell of a lot peppier, but i assume the top speed decresed.

You should have it in or out depending on how you want to perform, and how much noise you can accept.

Anyone can correct me if i am wrong.

Turbo cars like a straight through system. The velocity of the exiting exhaust gasses is quite highand can be hampered with a chambered muffler design. The turbo hot side provides a little restriction that a nonturbo car would get from a muffler with chambers. There are straight through silencers out there that will have virtually no bad affect on performance as long as they do not decrease the diameter of the exhaust system. I have a 2.5 cat back with a straight through 2.5 silencer where the cat used to be, and a 2.5 Supertrap muffler. Loud, but cheep and effective. It was louder without the silencer.
Nonturbo cars like a little back pressure to help with bottom end or low rpm torque. You will lose some high rpm power. You have to decide what you are looking for. I have seen low horsepower cars run quicker with a muffler than without because they lost bottom end torque and gained very little high rpm power with the straight through system. All dependes on the engine, and what you want. :laser:
