Push Button Start (merged 11.07)

i will figure it out this afternoon for you. (and guys. all the cars with push button starts still use keys. its much easier for someone to find your kill switch or bypass it than to get the key going without breaking stuff. anyway. i will look as soon as i gethome from class.

yeah what is the point anyway, i mean it looks cool and all, but you still have to put in the key and turn the key back to turn the car off...

like on the s2000 can you turn it on with the key, or do you have to press the button

right now, for 3 bucks i have my esi able to turn with the key, or with the key in and pushing the button. it is easy to make the key no longer work, so only the button can start, but the key still needs to be in (for safety, so noone steals the car)

just a suggestion, since you dont want to use a key, why not use a key pad? im guessin its possibal, but probably hella expensive. just a suggestion if your willin to go the mile. you may also try a hidden switch that has to be flipped before strating but cane be turned off after the car starts.

Just some suggestions, switches are sweet and all, but i dont really kno how a car works electricity wise...actually to be honest..i dont really kno how a car works at all. i can name parts and all but not all about knfe edge crank, or, internals..etc. oi...to much for me head at the time. il start small...thanks.:p:thumb:

WAIT... how about an engine start button that when you press it it reads your finger print... OR a seet that reads your ass and then if its a match then it starts the car... LOL, im not tryin to be hard on you, i think a key pad or a finger print reader would be awsome

all though unless the pad is wired like a bomb out of speed, the thief coudl just rip out the key pad and cross some wires

In the S2000 you do have to use the key and push the button. It can be a small pain. Insert and turn key, depress clutch, push button. If you didn't have to use the key it would be easier to steal, hence why the key is used.

I don't think the explination was very good inthe S2000, so what you do to start it is turn the key like you would any other car, but the key doesn't move to the starter position....know what mean? You cannot crank the car in the S2000. Once the key is in the on position, you push in clutch and press the start button.

If you have an S2000, it's no big deal and not a hassle at all to do.

The only reason I think it's a hassle is because whenever I drive one I forget and then say "damnit". It would only take a little time to get used to. If you could bypass depressing the clutch then you would be in business. I was actually thinking of doing a push button start but more along the lines of a trigger in the shift knob kind of like a joystick. Your hand is already going to be going there when you start it up. My luck though I would be shifting and push it and get the starter going while shifting.

it is not hard, i'v done it myself to my 96 mitz, you have to disable the clutch switch above the clutch pedel, you will need 4 relays and 4 stitches, you wire into the ingition switches wires (white is the hot one), one if for radio, acc, ingition, and last starter. then you will have to figure out a way to keep the stearing wheel from locking, i just about got it figured out, i will know tomarrow how to keep the stearing wheel from locking. If you cant do it from the parts above, then you just need to get a remote start system, I use Vipers, but when you hit the break (remote kill switch) your engin will shut off if you dont have the key in. see where i am coming from with this, cant figure it out email me.

ok i saw this kid's accord and it had two toggle switches and a push button to start his car. one toggle switch puts the car in acc. mode and the other is for the engine and then he pushes the clutch down and pushes the button and the car started. what needs to be done to get this to work does anyone know. i know someone who said they can do it for like $130 for everything just trying to save some money if anyone knew what needed to be done. late

All it takes is 4 bosch style automotive relays($1-$5 each) and low voltage switches and buttons($1-$15).With minor amounts of wire it should cost no more than $35.On the relays pins 30 and 87 are the normally open contacts, and pins 85 and 86 are the coil contacts.Put pins 30 of each relay to the Ign, start, acc, and hvac wires, put pin 30 of each relay to the constant power at the column. One side of the 85-86 goes to power and other to ground through switch/buttons.Solder everything and put diodes on the relays. It's actually very easy, PM me if you have any questions.

I thought about doing that, but what would you do about the steering wheel lock? If you took the lock cylinder out I can't think of what you would put in its place...maybe the cigarette lighter?! LOL

Maybe i'll run to Radio Shack tonight and take a look at what I need. Now if someone would come up with a voice recognition start, that would be dope. :thumb:

Now that I think about it, would you really need the relays? You should be able to intercept and splice the ignition cables in the steering column and re-route them to where you mount the switches.

I wouldn't extend the wires, some carry alot of current. If you don't use relays you will need to find switches/button with suitable current capacity(which can cost more than relays). So just use relays it's safer/cheaper and probably easier in the long run.About the lock cylinder just leave the key in the on position, that way you could lock the steering if you wanted too

I was looking at my wiring diagram and the ignition constant power is fused for 10amps. There are three additional wires for the acc/on/start. I got back from Autozone and they have safety toggle switches that handle 20amp load for $8 bucks. So, you would need two of those for the accessory and engine, and a push button for the starter. You can use 12awg wire to make the splices to the switches and button were ever you mount them.

The first wire will be the constant power going in to the accessory toggle switch. The output of the switch will go to the accessory wire and to the second toggle switch for the engine on. Again the output of that switch goes to the engine on wire and to the push button for the starter. Then that ouput goes to the wire for the starter. Now you can't have the starter run without having the two toggles switched on.

hell with this i dont' think it's a job for me i think i'll have someone else do it.

Your ignition is not fused at 10 amps, you better check it again. And if I remember right there are 2 acc, 1 ign, and 1 start. What kind of wiring diagram are you looking at? My96, it is not that difficult at all.Don't pay $100 plus, thats just insane.

The constant power wire that leads to the lock cylinder is fused for 10amps. Yep, I didn't see the HVAC in the diagram the first time, but that can just be tied in to the engine on switch.
