I was looking at this, and I saw how cheap it is. I was wondering if anyone has ever bought it and if it is a direct bolt on. What about the wiring for the fans, do they just plug in?

Im going to need some slim fans eventually, so this looked very interesting to me.

Thanks Calan, good info as always. I had a feeling that puller mode was more effective. If pusher mode was at least as effective then I would have set it up that way and scrubbed the shroud idea. Now I'm still not sure whether to get the shroud or not.

Shrouds are great, as long as there is enough surface area on the radiator and enough depth to make them efficient. And you have to think about how the air flows as well (like water, air likes to follow curved surfaces; sharp bends will cause turbulence and actually hinder the flow in some cases).

In the limited space of our DSM's, I'm not convinced that shrouds are necessary, and my gut feeling is that they may even hurt cooling at least in some cases. I think it's more important to seal the shrouds on the fans themselves, and keep engine heat down in the first place with proper heat shielding and by wrapping/coating hot parts.

Straight fins and good flow through the IC, A/C, and radiator coils is also a must (along with proper baffling), and is often overlooked for some reason.

I've got a godspeed solid aluminum radiator with 2 12 inch slimline fans. More or less the same thing you have. The fans will either need to wired to the oem wire harness if you still have a functional ac system, (IE NOT having a ac delete installed) or hard wire them in. A 12 volt toggle switch, some 18-20 gauge wire, butt connectors etc will be needed. Feel free to ask me on the hardwire install. It's how I have mine setup.

Ok, I decided and went ahead and ordered it. I went the ebay route, the same as Punishments kit, with the 2, 12" fans and NO shroud. $189 shipped. Punishments is $229 before shipping. Thanks for the advice!

I just bought a Mishimoto from JNZ Tuning and it came with similar fans. I paid $300 and wiring up the fans is really easy! Great price I almost bought those! :thumb:

The Mishimoto and the Punishment radiator and slimfan package are the same except for the mishimoto tag that is riveted on the side. Other than that they are the same...:shhh:

When I bought my radiator I was planning on installing with my turbo 6 bolt swap in the next couple of months, just as preventative maintenance. The new radiator has been at my house for almost 1 month to the day, and today my old one sprung a leak. I guess the new one is getting installed early. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I get it in. Also my turbo engine should be here next week!!!

***UPDATE***
I couldn't wait for tomorrow so I got it put on as soon as I got home from work. The whole thing from draining to filling took an hour. Here are some pics.

The 19 year old factory radiator with one fan and the new CX racing aluminum with dual fans.

Close up on the wiring. I wired it into the factory harness for easy plug and play. I also kept the factory thermoswitch.

i bought the punishment racing setup up i love it... for the wiring i just used the stock fan connectors and wired them to the slim fans i dont have a/c so i wired them both as cooling fans and everything plugs right in. the rad fits awsome no issues at all 200% worth the money

how are you guys mounting the fans to the radiator...I have a similar kit(not installed when I recieved the car) but there is no fan shroud to install the fans to the radiator...

there are harnesses that go through the radiator. When I got my punishment racing radiator kit I put the fans on that way, a couple of months later I check the radiator and the black harness that holding it in place was crushing the fins. I even had the fans resting in place, using the bottom of the radiator as a brace, so that gravity wouldn't pull them down, and they still were crushed and bent. I took both out and make brackets for them out of aluminum from homedepot.

I really think that the mounting kit, without the shroud, is poor design. Yea it quick and easy but its not worth the 8 holes that were made on my radiator.

goodluck

Ahhh...after I posted I went and looked at the radiator...found the site the owner bought it from...CXRacing it is the kit with the radiator and 2 12" fans....they also provide a shroud that he didn't buy....I will be buying it in due time...
