Both way use an engine leveler from the top, so you can tilt the engine sideways

I have only removed the engine and trans from the top as one piece. Remove hood and use an engine hoist with a load leveler once everything has been disconnected. A load leveler allows you to tilt the engine and trans during removal. These items can be had for a very reasonable price at Harbor Freight. Sounds like you will also want an engine stand as well.

If you have access to a lift dropping it out the bottom is the easiest. I had mine out in less than 3 hours by myself.

Yes you can as stated before and shouldn't be very difficult.

Easiest way is to pull them together imo. I always lift the car a little so I have room to turn and tilt the motor and tranny to pull it out
