Sorry for going so off topic, but isn't the G35 basically an american spec skyline? I see comercials for it that say it has awd w/ intelligence. Too bad we don't get the twin turbo setup though. If money wasn't an issue, maybe it would be possible to swap a skyline tt engine setup into it. Then you'd have the best of both worlds, comfort and about all the power you could ever want.
 
RB26dett already crossed my mind. i saw one with a SR20 in it.....:confused:

anyway the G35 is a "skyline", According to my sources;) in the next three model years we will see a AWD, 8 Cyl. Slyline that will be the same basic body style. I am so damn crazy when it comes to shit like this that i might put a damn turbo deisel 7.0 liter from a MAC truck. OMG

anyway ill let you know what i decide.

I've just read through all the posts here, as I'm in the market for a replacement for my small 16g.

Automotosports recommended the GT3255 (as they know me and my car) over the SCM50. They are doing some neat things with the shop EVO and the GTxxR turbos; I'll be swinging by the shop this weekend to check out the latest PTE setups.

The thing that seem unclear after reading this thread is what benefits a GT325_ will give over a SCM50?

And I also assume most people here are discussing internal wastegate setups?
 
The gt3255 looks like a pretty good combo, and i have thought it should be closer in performance(if not a little better) to the scm 50 since i started to research them. It flows a pound or 2 more than a 50 trim, ~8lbs min more than the gt3251, and the gt32 turbine is said to flow better than a stage 2 or 3 turbine wheel due to it's improved design.

The gt3255 spooled about the same as a gt3251. The gt3251 car even had hks cams and dsmlink, which the gt3255 car didn't. The gt3255 car was also said to be poorly tuned. It seems that more people would be interested in the turbo that has more potential (airflow and hp) given that spoolup and cost is the same between them.

The parts used in the scm 50 have been unchanged since the 70's. The parts in the gt325_ is much newer technology, and is supposed to be more efficient and durable than the scm 50, according to Garrett. Until someone does some more real life documentation of back to back testing, measuring things like exhaust back pressure and intake temps, or more of these turbo's make it to the track, the real life benefits of the gt series over the "T" series are kind of a mystery. Perhaps AMS has done some testing or has some info that you could share with us.
 
yea i myself would like to know of the benefits of the GT series turbos over the old style T series turbos which are lengends in there own right and proven but time will tell i guess i would like someone if they can to explain the differences between the 2 and the pros and cons of the gt and t series
 
No way dude. Garrett is wrong! DSM bench racing net scientists. Say ball bearing turbos don't spool 15% quicker. They spool the exact same:laugh:
 
Well I finally found someone who had GT3251, since PTE hasn't been able to build one for the last 3 weeks and won't for another 2. So, my install date is planned for the 9th of April. On my current setup I went 13.3 @ 100.75 on 93 and also went 13.3 @ 95 missing 4th gear on 116 octane (14b unported @ 18psi). I'll post some new times in a few weeks once the installs complete and the cars dyno-tuned.
 
um exhaust a/r doesnt change from the diameter of the exh blades.
its the size of the HOUSING.
so .48 a/r is a smaller exhaust HOUSING then a .63 a/r and so on.

also the pte 50 doesnt use gt wheels.
the ONLY precision sc turbo to use a gt wheel is the sc61 which utilizes the 61mm gt40 comp wheel.

pte has been around for years and is a big name in turbo's(Especially for domestics) they know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thick they were talking about the GT3251 and GT3255 using the GT wheels, not the SCM50.

Actually the radius of the turbine wheel is one of the things used to calculate the A/R of a turbine housing. So when the size of the turbine wheel changes so does the A/R.

How long have they been around? Based on my experience with them, they seem to have a hard time figuring out what turbo's they do and don't make.
 
oops .. i forgot about the newer gt35e's etc OMG

sorry if I got confused about them thinking the scm50 was a gt wheel.

sure the wheels are used to measure but with these turbos only a few wheels are used SO a lot of the times the a/r is changed just via the housing.
i have a .82 a/r gt3040r and if I wanted to go to a .63 i would just need to order a new housing. not a new wheel etc.
same goes for the pte turbo(most of them) to change the a/r . its an actually size change of the housing.

just like it is with a compressor housing. to4e= 0.60 where to4s= .70 a/r.

where the inlet's and wheels are still the same(well the to4s has the 4" "cone")

they have been around for years with domestics.
the problem is really that they mix and match a lot of turbos and housings.. combine that with very LITTLE information out there on the GT turbos and people get confused. Theres the same problem in the "honda world" . most are confused with gt stuff since there really isnt much info around combined with mutiple names for the same turbo.

i had my turbo for a year before I found out exactly what I had. I was told it was a certain gt turbo but became suspicious after reading some threads on it. Well low and behold it was a little different then I had thought. (it was bigger) . I had to email to distributor here(who wasnt totally sure what it was..even with part #'s) and then it led me back to the maker in australia GCG turbos.
and I found out what it was :)

its the exact same turbo on secretservices sr20det motor.(no its not an sc61 which I have seen previously posted here . its a gt3040r which has been called gt35r or gt40r..yeah confusing.... they are upgrading it though since the turbine is too small for them now)

nice! has anyone reported spiking probs with the precision internal gated setups?

i still cant decide.... 50 trim or scm61.
 
Is it possible to clock the compressor side just like a tdo5 (towards the radiator) and still have it be internally gated?

Wrong. The size of the turbine wheel has no affect on the A/R ratio of a turbine housing.

uh oh Ben this is twice we agree...:laugh: the only way that turbine wheel size affects the A/R is what wheel can fit in a certain AR, for example a 76trim P trim exhaust wheel i dont think will fit in a .48 AR housing. so the wheel size does not affect AR except for what wheels works in what housing.

What i'm talking about is when you put a turbine wheel into a turbine housing it wasn't designed around. For example, when you machine a stock 7cm housing to accept a 76 trim stageIII or TDO6h turbine wheel. Wouldn't this change the a/r of the 7cm housing?

That does not change the A/R ratio of the housing.

R is the radius to the centerline of the turbine shaft, not the tip of the wheel. It does not matter if you have a TD05H wheel or a stage 3 wheel.
 
A/R ratio is just a ratio and can have different flow rates and spool with the same ratio.

My question is how does the full garrett 4 bolt 0.48 A/R housings compare to the mitsu 7 cm housing? Both have pretty much the same A/R. But, what is the Area (A) and what is the radius (r) of both? Anyone know? One housing may flow more because both the A and R are proportionately larger that the other.

What about comparison to the PTE to full garrett?

pte housings are a little bit bigger(ported more...) then standard garret housings or so is the word that ive read.

The PTE DSM bolt on housing was copied from the 7cm/8cm MHI design. The volute is asymmetric just like a 7cm. The tongue is high up towards the inlet just like a 7cm. It works just like a 7cm.

The Bullseye turbine housing (the one we primarily use in the RS series) follows the design of a Garrett T31 turbine housing. The volute is symmetric just like the Garrett, and the tongue is in the right place.
