The Bullseye turbine housing (the one we primarily use in the RS series) follows the design of a Garrett T31 turbine housing. The volute is symmetric just like the Garrett, and the tongue is in the right place.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the tongue of the housing? And when you say it is symmetric do you mean that the center of the volute is centered with the turbine's inducer width or the whole turbine width? And why would this be a benifit since the turbine is not symetrical itself (ie. the induce and exducer are not the same size).

And back to my original question if it is not the same size, how much bigger is the Garrett housings than the 7cm with the same A/R?

Sorry for all the questions but I cant find this info anywhere.

Out of curiosity (since you have experience with both).. have you noticed any flow / spool differences btw the two turbine housing designs (PTE/Bullseye) on your RS-series turbos?

Obviously the Bullseye W/G design is better as have never seen a "hacked" RS ;)
 
The tongue is the area where the exhaust gasses pass through the scroll of the housing to meet the turbine wheel.

Here is a little diagram that attempts to show what I am referring to with respect to symmetric volute design. When looking down the path of the turbine inlet of these two styles of housings, this is what you will see.

Im confused.
Iposted that the precision housings are slightly bigger(ported) then garrett .. which someone said no... i said i guess rod(short..from precision) was lying when he posted that..and not to mention what others have said the same thing

Rod posted that they are bigger than what Garrett?
 
Since I saw alot of references in this post to the br475 I figured I would post some real world numbers for it. I ran a 12.2 et @ 116mph with a bad 60ft. This was at 23psi, 92 GSX with compression of 150, 150, 125, 135. In comparison, my best time with the stock turbo was 13.2 @ 102mph and a little better compression then. This turbo is great on the street. I have seen 11 psi as low as 3,000 rpm. Usually see around 15psi by about 3500, 20psi by 3700, and the most I've run 23psi by 3800-3900.
 
Took it to the dyno last week and I'm not happy... The car wouldn't go any richer in the midrange (+35% on the MAFT) but was great after 5krpm? I'm takin it back to Turbotrix tm to have a s/x afpr put on and try a new knock sensor because we're thinking thats the problem? Checked mine and it feels a little gelly and startin to feel the screw. Hopefully thats whats messing up and probably pulling a lot of timing... Only time will tell... Also, hoping to get the right cable by tm so I can run my datalogger and check the knock count. If all this doesn't make a big change, might buy an old version afc with the knobs just so I can make better adjustments in the midrange. Heres the graph, lemme know what you guys think:

Nice times. Did you happen to shoot a pic of the turbo before strapping it on? Buschur recently spoke on the BR475 (now called the BR450)saying it was designed to be a lower cost alternative to the vernable BR20G. They recently put down 440WHP with it on their mildly modified EVOVIII.. which is a few ponys shy of the max WHP they ever saw on their 20G on a fully modified DSM.
 
Has anyone seen the new PTE-GT30 entry on DSM Motorsports website ?

Ball bearing bolt-on with internal gate for $1150. In their tests it spooled faster than the GT3251 and SCM50 with ~same peak-HP rating (500HP).

I would also like to know. I was looking at getting the SCM50. But that seems like a better turbo. Although it may be too good to be true:confused:
Any hear anything about it?
 
yeah its Precisions new GT30R turbo. It utilizes a 76.2mm Compressor wheel (56trim) it is a true dual bb turbo that is water and oil cooled. We have a car rolling around with it as of last week and its really promisig. For the price we might start selling more of those than the 50trim. IT is a higher boost happy turbo but spools up at a ridiculous 3400-3600 RPM's. The 2g Using it now breaks loose all 4, sooooooooooo awesome. Once we start gettin more feedback i feel this will be a very popular turbo and will expand the DSM's Communities choices.

Been there, done that with the 52 lb/min GT30R CHRA in the PTE housing. It works almost as well as a 20G. Martin, go dyno the thing. At 30psi, you'll get about 420 to the wheels. Trust me.

If anyone wants one, I'll build one, reluctantly.

already scheduled. Like i said we only have it on one car because after the reults we got on the GT32's we dont want to get our hopes up. We'll see. fortunately the test car is a car that will be able to utilize the boost with cams, dsmlink, head work and a few other goodies. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the input though Ben.

how about 42.5 lb/min at 22 psi on a 7 bolt long block with 264/272s? Not bad for the ole 2g head/intake mani and throttle body. Gotta have some love for the scm 50.

I don't think the 1G stuff buys you much, actually.

Last time I was at the track, I got 41.6lb/min at 22.5psi with the same cams as you have. Pretty close. ;) Not too shabby out of a 16G.
