To quench this 2.3's thirst for E85, I picked up a set of FIC high-Z 1680cc injectors. The idle on these should be near stock!

My hx35 oil drain setup is shown here. I fitted a pipe to a drain flange, had an EMT conduit sweep welded to the oil pan, and connected them both with Vibrant high-temp silicone hose. I clamped both ends with t-bolt clamps (not shown here). The smallest inside diameter seen in the oil drain is 0.777". Big enough for Holset's spec.

Bolted the Punishment Racing divided T3 manifold up and it sure looks nice. I think this combo (2.3L, Cyclone intake manifold, proper divided hx35) will make for a fantastic driving experience.

Finally assembled, complete longblock.

Day of engine drop. Bolted on XACT chromoly flywheel with new loctited flywheel bolts.

My clutch of choice sent from TMZ performance. A South Bend SS-X pressure plate and TZ kevlar clutch disc.

Transmission bolted back up. To handle the torque I may see from this setup, the transmission has been rebuilt with an EvoIII gearset, input shaft, and a 4 spider center differential. New OEM clutch fork, pivot ball, and throwout bearing are also installed. Clutch fork sits slightly over to the slave cylinder so shimming the pivot ball was not needed.

Engine and transmission finally going back home! I had to readjust the hoist's boom a couple times to get it right. Bolted down to Prothane motor mounts and a solid front roll stop. Rear mount first, front second, transmission third, and driver side mount last. Everything went pretty smoothly.

Thanks! Great minds think alike? Haha, care to share what kind of build you're scheming?

Will definitely post logs once I have properly broken the motor in and iron out all the details.

I've been dreaming up a 2.4l long rod and an HX35 with stock twin scroll housing. I'm still debating on a 1g head with a Cyclone (currently have the manifold but just need to rebuild it) or a 2g head with an Evo 3. It's a hard choice. All kept on the FWD platform with v3 running speed density on E85. I'm building the car up for road racing.

Sounds very similar, and that is a tough choice indeed. I feel as if its a toss up, although if I were to do it again, I would probably choose the 2g head, just because I believe the way the air flows at the head is more critical than the way air flows inside the intake manifold (with the 2g head arguably being better than the 1g, but again, just personal opinion). You've probably read it, but there's a member that used both a 2g head AND a Cyclone, and matched the ports using epoxy.

The hx35 does sound a little bigger than most road racing turbos though.. I'll be sure to follow when you start building that setup from the ground up.

I see im not the only one. I have a uncompleted 2.4LR and 2 cyclone intakes in my attic. I'm running a divided t3 H1E on my 2.0. My only concern with the cyclone is the flow up top. Someone else was running it in autocross and switched to a sheetmetal intake becuase of the lose of top end power with the cyclone. A larger plenum might fix that.

I was also somewhat concerned about the topend flow for the Cyclone, until Mr. Peepers posted his dyno graphs for his setup on a stock 1g intake manifold. It's very much a compromise; I feel I use the lower portion of my RPM range much more than the upper portion, and so I decided on the Cyclone over a sheet metal.

There is somebody who made a larger plenum for the Cyclone by lopping the throttle body flange off one and welding a longer plenum to it. Highbooost, I think, but I've seen it on the classifieds so I'm guessing it didn't perform too much better for the effort required.

Yeah saw that too. The 2.4 is such a different animal when it comes to airflow though. I guess all you can do is try! Please post up your results, oh and I hate you for your Punishment Racing divided T3 manifold. LOL Did you ahve to go to animal testing to afford that puppy?

LOL It definitely ate up a huge chunk of my paycheck. I bought the manifold in January and my wallet is still in rehab...

On the other hand, its also dumping a lot of heat into my bay and bubbling the paint on my hood. Heat wrap and a turbo blanket are on the way to help me contain it. I see so many pictures of engine bays with uncoated/unwrapped tubular manifolds, I just don't see how they handle all that heat.

Results will be posted after break-in is done!

Function is what I'm looking for. I looked into ceramic coating but none of the coatings offered seem to be able to hold for extended periods of time. I've even seen Swain Tech's coating on turbo manifolds flake off.

What's your reasoning for wanting it coated instead?
