Ok so ive decided to fix all the bads in my tsi... im on a budget so i will need some information on what cheap parts are good.

Im going to pull the head and have it checked and resurfaced if needed, should i take the block in and have it looked at too and or decked?

Is the felpro advance auto parts head gasket good for a stock build? Can i use the advance auto parts head bolts?

Yea im going to get the ARPs and in the kit i looked at they offere .20 over pistons so would i have to get .20 over everything if i do get my block .20 over?

The only thing you would to get .020 over is the pistons, the rings will come sized for the pistons and the bearings will still be standard size.

your list of stuff is good but you are missing just a few things the timing tensior and a water pump is a must i would also say take the balance shafts out as well..when i got my car the kid that had it just did the timing belt and nothing else then the tensior started ticking i replaced that and i had balance shafts well one day on the way home from school the bearing for the blanace shafts fell out and destoryed my bottom end its worth taking them out car runs bette and eaiser its about 15 less pounds the motor needs to turn over anyway. as for a tensior i would say get a mitsu one you can ask around about the part store ones but ive seen to many of them fail but again its your call

talon187 is right, replacing all the timing belt equipment is a must and I too have ruined an engine due to the front balance shaft bearing giving out, resulting in zero oil pressure to the rest of the engine.

Yea ive got plans to take the shafts out and get the pump and tensioner is the tensioner from extremepsi good? Any brand of water pump or should i get a speceific one?

im not sure what tensior extremepsi sells if its a mitsu one then go for if not then check out sbrs website or the dealer ive heard issues with the auto store water pumps because the blade inside is not as good as the mitsu one and i can say this off hand ive looked at both i work at a parts store and even the new one from there and not the remand one sucks in compersion

So ive decided that im going to buy the rebuild kit when i install the pistons what should i watch out for? The crank can stay in the motor when installing bearings correct? What all will boring .20 over do for me?

Nope, gotta drop the crank to get the block bored and to change the main and rod bearings.

Make sure the cylinders are in round and that the cylinder walls have a smooth, unetched surface.

While i already have the bottom end apart should i get newer rods or just can i use my stock ones?

look at them and see what look like. what a lot of people like to do. what i was going to do if you havent bought your kit yet you can do stock 1g rods with 2g pistions the 2g pistions have a slight higher compression ratio ive seen people run 400 whp on this setup i mean i know your doing stock rebuild could it if you ever wanted more power down the road the only thing is you have to have the rods meachined to fit the pistions. you plan on having the crank out look at that and seeif its got any marks in it or what hopefully it wont need to be resurfaced have the block decked as well

Well the kit comes with pistons and someone before told me to use 1g rods and 2g pistons but since im already getting pistons i dont wana spend more money and get 2g pistons and have the 1gs sitting around im just going to buy the kit use my stock rods and hope the crank is ok wich i think it is and i should be good to go for now how much hp do you think i can run with this stock type rebuild? could i run a 16G with the supporting fuel and misc stuff.?

you can sure run a 16g with no problem the question is how much boost and how much power your looking to make a 16g can make somewhere around 375 with supporting mods. i know your doing a stock rebuild so i dont know if i would want to go that high one for the simple fact of the stock headgasket....ive seen people run 400 and more on pretty much a stock motor expect for the arp head studs and 4 layer mitsu metal headgasket. but again its all in your hands honnest id prefectly happy with a stock rebuilt motor as long as i had the arps the mitsu 4 layer headgasket and then balance shafts out but thats just my .02 good luck

Eh later on id shoot for around 300-350 horses so now that puts a 4layer mitsu mls gasket on there and the ARPs have been on it could i use the cometic gasket or is the mitsu better? How much boost can i get out of the 16G with the correct supporting mods for a daily driver and then to beat on it sometimes?
