After 4 months without my 97 GSX, I finally got another DSM. A 90 Black GSX bone stock with a few issues.
Stock spoiler was ripped off, leaving a bunch of white plastic holes. Went to NAPA and bought a bunch of hole covers (black plastic with a bunch of teeth on them), silicone them with black silicone and press them in. So far no leaks. Plus I lost some weight from the back end.
Next was the headlight would not go down. Checked all the relays and switches. All of them was good. With the help from DSM Rook, I found a splice in the wire loom that was broken. Some heat shrink, solder, and a bunch of electrical tape later. It was fixed. The electrical tape was for the wire loom. Have to make it look stock right?
Next up I had a BENT wheel. This thing was pretty bad, so I took it as a excuse to update the wheels to 97 spec.
Got the wheels for $60 (craigslist) with no tires. Picked up 4 Sumo tires from tirerack for $300 shipped. (need something decent for the track).
Now for the maintenance, timing belt and water pump replaced, valve cover seal replaced, fuel filter replaced, oil change, NGK spark plug, NGK spark plug wire, new battery terminal, K&N air filter (drop in), and a new alarm. stock alarm sucks.
Ordered 255 walbro $100 shipped with kit, ground system (ebay) $25, Megan downpipe and exhaust $520 shipped, and some lowering springs $120 shipped. I'm still waiting for these parts. I will get some pics when the performance parts start going on.
In the mean time, I want the car to lose some weight, so I pulled out the spare tire and surrounding brackets, AC with condenser, and washer reservoir.
I drive this daily so I do want to keep my power windows and front seats.
My goal is to get the car around 250whp with the stock turbo, going with a FMIC is still questionable for me. Be track ready by july 26, road race on a weekend by IRDC. Not sure how i'll do on a budget.
Future plans are RM rear sway bar, 94 front GSX brake caliper and rotor with HP+ pads, lose some more weight with a carbon fiber hood ( have a big dent on my hood anyways), JNZ front rebar, and a hard pipe kit or FMIC.
Do you think i'll be competitive enough on the track? Driver skill taken out of the equation.
Any suggestions would help. I will keep updates til after race day and tell you how I'll do. If this is not suitable for a topic, please let me know and i'll erase it.

Well I can't answer the car-specific comparisons or the HP, since that's bench racing. I can tell you however it sounds like you've got some solid upgrades planned out. To go with that 255, you're going to need an AFPR. I would go ahead and spring for the FMIC - I'm looking to get the Punishment Racing setup personally: Talon/Eclipse 1G 8inch Short Route Street Kit
With all your hardware upgrades you have mapped, I think you'll be able to attain your goals in time. Are you eventually going to upgrade your injectors/ECU?

I saw that same kit, very tempting in price too. A part of me want the sleeper look with the smic with the ETS hard pipe kit. At as of this time I don't know yet. I ran the 255 walbro in my last GSX and had no problems with it with the stock FPR. Thinking about a set of 550cc injectors since they go for next to nothing and a chip/eprom set up. Once I get all the parts on that I ordered, then that will tell me which way to go. I will edit what I posted above.

I'd be careful with this - you might get fuel contamination in your oil with a 255 on a stock regulator. If you're going to do that, I'd recommend getting an oil analysis on your first oil change from Blackstone Labs. I've seen plenty of people run 255s without regulators - that's the only reason I mention that possibility.

If you're thinking about 550cc/EPROM chip, I'd suggest going Jackal if you're on a budget. $175 for the Moates Ostrich, $50 (used) for the 3BAR MAP sensor, and $30 for the temp sensor used - then you'd be converted to speed density. If you have a little more money to spend, I'd go V3 DSMLink - they are coming out with speed density here soon too. Sounds like you're going to have a real sweet setup here soon! :D

how would I get fuel contamination? through the rings because it be running too rich? I had a wideband on my last car as mention and it was dead on with the fuel ratio.
I was thinking about the keydiver chip if I do go that route. Reliable and proven to work (used to have one). I'm going to stay away from speed density. I ran a GM maf and hated it. It is the way to go but not on a budget. I had so many issues with the GM maf. Now AEM speed density is another story and alot more $$$$.
I didn't know V3 is coming out with speed density, might just wait for that. thanks for the info
