I have been lurking here on DSMtuners for quite some time now. Gathering information and learning the ins and outs of my 1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. It's my first turbo car, and the first awd car for me as well. I'm excited to start modding it. Here's the run down so far.

Autometer cobalt Boost gauge
2.5 inch exhaust, might just be a cat-back, i haven't looked, no muffler from previous owner
KN open filter kit
New plugs, wires, and a bunch of miscellaneous maintenance items
Installed the pcv check valve.
New slotted vented rotors all way round
17" rims with brand new Conti extreme contact DWS all way round.

She runs ok, but my t25 is starting to feel weird, and im having spooling issues here and there, like no boost at all under wot when she's kinda cold. Weird things. Probably due to some terrible MBC issues that i brought about. So there are probably leaks and other shenanigans afoot. I'd rather just continue with upgrading versus fixing bugs to parts that are about to be replaced shortly

So i picked up some replacement parts

14b, with all the fixin's
1g BOV and pipe
NXS Bleeder MBC
Parts to build a BLT
New shifter cables with bearings in the ends
A buddy hooked me up with a Turbosmart dual port BOV, but im not sure if im going to run it anytime soon.

I'm waiting for
14b rebuild kit
Evo 9 fuel pump
new turbo gaskets
New exhaust gaskets.

Future purchases.

Wideband
ECMlink
1000cc injectors
Short shifter
FMIC
Tubular exhaust manifold

I do have a few questions

1. Should I bother porting my O2 housing for my 14b?
2. There's no need for an AFPR with the evo pump, correct?
3. What other items should i pick up to make my 14b happen?

I have been looking around, and reading a lot of similar threads to what I'm writing now, just thought i'd get my own personal answers finally, LOL. Thank you all for reading, and DSM's are way too much fun!

I have a 96tsi and have no clue where to start or what it has... :/

Mindbogglin... Wish I had someone near me in person with a built car so I can get schooled and have someone I can annoy with all the questions. Lol

Dsmtuners is hands down one of the best car forums i have had the pleasure of being a member of.

Just start reading here, pretty much any question you have has already been answered, has 200 pictures, and 4 videos pertaining to it. It's fantastic, LOL.

dude dont JB weld your OFH.. just get a plug for it maaaann... dont do it half assed or you will regret it later, oil leaking is nothign to joke about.

I understand the concern, and I'm aware of how terrible it would be if it leaked. It will not leak though. If you read what i did, and understand exactly the process I completed, then you'd agree. It sounds a bit odd, but it was a mint recycle of the existing OFH turbo feed fitting. Im really happy with how it turned out.

Update time.

VRSF FMIC kit in mail! Should be here on the 31st.
Excellent customer service from VRSF, helping me figure out my BOV woes. Top notch!

Turbosmart to Greddy flange adapter in transit as well. What a headache it was finding that adapter for the older TS dual port BOV.

I just picked up 2-2GB fogs from the junkyard for 5 bucks, before anyone says anything, I do in fact have a mitsu 2gb front end, with 2gb oem headlights, which are brand new. So i have a frankentalon.

Next on the list is ECMlink v3 full.

Also I'm going to do the timing belt, and remove the balancing shafts. I have no logs as to when the t belt was done, so i'd rather replace it and ditch the balancing shafts while im in there. There's 60k on my motor, and i will be pushing her hard with the new turbo, so it needs to be replaced.

As far as maintenance goes, once the t belt is done, i will replace all my hoses with silicon ones since i have the car off the road. I already have replaced a bunch of sensors, full tune up< fuel filter, a whole lot of odds and ends. It's looking pretty good on the maint end of things.

One of these days im going to take a ton of pics, and of course post them up.

I retapped my foglight holes to M8x 1.25 to accept the hardware included with the FMIC.

I have been abusing my Dremel for the last ten years, heavy abuse. I have been treating it like an angle grinder/sawzall for all sorts of projects. This project finally killed it. It did just manage to complete it's task though!!!

Overall the kit was pretty easy to install. I still havn't driven it yet. And the ghetto cell phone pics with a floor lamp for lighting suck, so take that into account.

Still updates.

Two terrible videos, the first one you can see the PS hardlines have been removed and a freshie tubing loop is now in its place.

The turbosmart BOV may actually have clearance issues, still working that out, may have to get a 90 fitting.

I managed to tap my O2 sensor housing's O2 bung, it now has my new O2 sensor installed. Hopefully it doesn't leak, LOL.

I wasnt sure how many pics i could do per post, but our automerge feature is the bomb apparently!!

I have my NXS MBC installed by the radiator where the reservoir used to be.

Relocated the coolant reservoir, i reused the stock bracket and bent it to my will.

Its alright, and uses that now open space.

I am changing the oil tomorrow, as well as topping off the coolant. Then im going to start her up and check for leaks.

I really like what you did with the overflow tank! When I go short route with my intercooler pipes I might just put mine there. :hmm:

And you won't be having any heatsoak issues with that intercooler and a 14b, that's for sure!

Another update.

I did an oil change, and topped off fluids. Dextron 2 atf for my PS, water wetter and 50/50 for my cooling system.

I started her. No fluid leaks at all. Surprisingly actually. My OFH feed block is working great. My PS cooling coil bypass loop, is leak free.

No CEL, surprisingly. My stock Boost control solenoid apparently has been disconnected for quite some time, the wires were sheared off at the connector. Which explains a lot. My stock system was running at 11.5-ish psi on the "non functional" BCS. With the MBC improperly installed, my system was handling 14.5psi before my stock 2g bov would vent. So i have no idea why my system was running 11.5psi constant with a "non functioning" BCS, unless the wire shear happen while i had the car sitting, which would make more sense.

Test drive. It rips hard, but only holding 10 psi atm. I have boost leaks. I suspect the throttle body. These will need to be rectified soon, i need more boost!!!

Even at 10 psi, the 14b clearly out performs the shitty T25. I cant wait to turn it up and really feel the difference. The top end is much better, and when it spools, it really pulls. It really is a great upgrade, i cant wait to go E316g soonish. :)

Im still in the process of trimming out the front bumper, i have the fiberglass reinforcement cut out already, I just need to trim for the plastic bumper itself.

I was bummed that I killed my dremel, and was going to go out and buy a reciprocating saw so I could cut the bumper. I was thinking of all my tools, and what i could use. Finally a crazy thought popped into my head...

A sheet rock (aka Keyhole, wallboard, jab,) saw. It cuts the bumper support cleanly, fast, and as cheap as it gets!!! It worked great, I was quite surprised.

I do in fact have clearance issues with the Turbosmart BOV, I have to modify the hood slightly, or change the straight vacuum fitting to a 90 degree. I'd like to get the fitting, but sourcing metric vacuum line fittings escapes me atm.

All in all, Im super pumped over how much of an improvement this setup is. The stock SMIC setup, is horrendous. There is so much restriction in every section of it, it boggles my mind. The VRSF FMIC has like no restriction at all, my car loves it.

I have pics, but will have to post them later in the week. Thanks for reading this!

Another update.

I cut my hood stiffening channel a little bit to make clearance for the Turbosmart BOV. It is now free and clear, finally my woes with it are over!!

I made a BLT, and started testing.

Here are my leaks.

J pipe
TB gasket
BISS

I fixed the J pipe, the biss, and got the TB leak to a slight minimum, i need to buy new gaskets.

Apparently I either have retarded MBC issues still, or my wastegate isn't actuating.

I took the talon out, with my buddy who is about to turbo his 240sx. I give it about 3/4 throttle and it climbs to 17 psi quick, i back off.

I pull over, adjust my NXS MBC. Then give it another mild rip. 21psi and i let off. I adjust a third time and rip it. It skyrocketed to 25-ish PSI then i let off. NO pops, bangs or audible damage to anything, it was a quick spike before i let off.

So the good part is that my system can hold 16 psi steady through me slowly boosting to it and stopping throttle movement, the bad is i now have more to troubleshoot.

My buddy nearly shit himself, the talon rips hard, even with 75 percent throttle. thats with our two giant selves in it. Im 6'4" 260, and hes 6'5" 250.

Im going to borrow my buddy's or even possibly buy a vacuum tester and test the wastegate actuator. Based upon that, im either buying a new MBC, getting the WG actuator off my t25 to fab up, or getting a new 14b actuator.

Any suggestions?

The NXS is a bleeder style MBC and I hooked it up just as the stock BCS was hooked up, and yet it doesnt seem to function. Not good.
