Well i finally got around to pulling the motor the others day. Compression was off on cylinder two, not out of spec but among other problems (small oil leaks, coolant leaks, and boost leaks) i decided it was time for a rebuild. I have a 6-bolt and a 7-bolt motor to my disposle, ill be going with the 7-bolt. Right now i am throwing around the idea of a 2.3 stroker, but thats not set in stone. Have to see what kind of funds i can save up in the next two months. My goals for the car are not primarily based on HP, but i would like to make anywhere from 320-375. Thats a pretty big gap, but ill be building this car a little over kill. I really would like to have a fun DD that i know when i turn the key it will fire up. For tuning ill be running speed density with Dsmap. My main goal for this whole project is to learn as much as i can and try to do most the work, even the body work. Not much else happening with that so on to the pictures.

well whay was the purpose of taking the motor off? is there something wrong with it?

Well it should say it in the OP (after i updated with it) But it might not be there yet. I pulled the motor because compression was low on cylinder two, not out of spec but there where also small oil leaks, coolant leaks, and boost leaks so i decided to rebuild it. I also might stroke it which in that case it would need to come out.

Do you have a certain amount of money you have to work with already or are just doing it little by little? Also is there like a time limit by when you need to get it done? I know when i did my engine i had to plan everything out and budget my money, because i needed to get my car running to look for work. Goodluck with your project

That's great, I've never pulled a 4G63 myself. Seems straight forward though. Since you have it out and when you get it on a engine stand, consider balance shaft removal while your rebuilding. That's the fun part is to have your motor in front you to replace what gaskets, rings, and seals necessary. You'll gain alot of knowledge too. Wish I could do that with a spare motor. I have alot to learn in DSM world myself. Some day... I like the 240sx truck make shift. Haha. Good luck with your rebuild, would like to see follow up pics of the motor. Key factor in my opinion, replace studs-(intake and manifold), oil pan gasket, damn near everything and take your time. Have fun!

I have some money to play with but i have to wait until after spring break to use it because im taking my girl on a spring trip and i want to make sure i have enough money for that. As far as time goes, i have as long as i need assuming my 240sx stays running. Thats probably one of the biggest luxurys i have. Thanks for commenting, ill get some pictures maybe tonight one i strip it down to the block.

+1 on the balance shaft removal. I agree having it on a stand is alot of fun. This is the first time for alot of things, so its all new and exciting. And thanks for reccomending parts to replace, becuase all this will be noted and checked before motor is ready. haha yeah the 240 is my little work car right now. Ill get some pictures of the dissasembly tonight maybe tomorrow. And ill be going ARP studs where ever i can, i dont have much of a choice concidering mine are ALL rusted. Hey and if your ever in the DFW area let me know, also if you are ever looking for a motor i have a complete 6-bolt motor and tranny.

I bet you got alot of looks rollin down the road in a 240 with a motor in the trunk LOL...

Haha luckily all my driving was done on my property, but i could only imagine. I did have a transmission i was hauling around though and yeah people gave me some looks. But the motor in the back is my cheap way of lowering the car :hellyeah:

gotcha well keep us updated:thumb:

Worked on taking the motor apart for a little while today. Took off the pulleys, timing belt and tensioner, then took off the head. This motor was pretty damn messy. There is obviously 18 years of abuse left over. There was oil everywhere. The intake was covered in oil and not just a film but built up crap. Looks like there was an oil leak out of the knock sensor? Maybe i just spilt oil on there. And now on to the pictures.
