OK so I just bought this 98 GST Spyder to literally take it away from the owner. He should be arrested for cruelty of a DSM. This thing is on its deathbed! I don't even know where to begin! It "features" the most horrible looking 17" wankster wannabe wheels I have EVER seen (new tires though), fake chrome greddy BOV that leaks at like 2 PSI whining like its on perpetual PMS, cut springs on dead struts, fluids are either under or over-filled, fram oil filter , ebay POS air filter, Brand new Dual brand CD player (that is already inoperable BTW), broken after-market alarm, dented body with terrible bodywork (particularly in the rear quarter panel/bumper) and the front bumper was repainted with overspray on the ebay projector headlights and on OEM fog lights, bumper lights are removed or they fell due to the rough ride quality, broken motor-mounts, completely torn convertible top with almost all hardware broken or inoperable, and bad clutch. I'm sure I'm missing some additional details. My goal is to make this thing nice  and hopefully sell it to an owner that will treat it as it deserves.

I got it as a partial trade, so I got a good deal. I already bought an OEM convertible top, OEM side skirts, leather interior, OEM wheels, Real Greddy Type RS BOV and piping, Kenwood stereo, and its going to the body shop on Wednesday. I'm still trying to find a good deal on springs and shocks.

Doesn't look too bad from pics apart from the rims. Your status of it though sheds light to it :p

You're right its actually not that bad, which is why I chose to involved with it. (We're our own worst critics [although on these forums others can be quite harsh ROFL.]) I just wanted to kinda do a before and after of my little project.

In that case, best of luck with it! Some people do puzzles, we rebuild cars piece by piece. I find the latter more involved and worthwhile even if you get some :ohdamn: and :banghead: in the process, hehe

Good luck with the restoration. Its truly sad to see such abuse on a car like that. I have a similar story with mine so I know how you feel. Feels good to have a project I bet. :)

Thanks goodness someone got it who will take care of it. Good, well maintained DSM's are getting fewer every day. I cringe every time I see an ad that says "parting out" or see a molested DSM driving down the road.
I myself am in the process of fixing a '97 GSX that was abused. Best of luck to your new build.

Fram filters are mass-produced WalMart garbage. Even WalMart's own SuperTech filters (made by Champion Laboratories) are better than the base-grade Fram.

We cut a PH8A apart at work a while ago- HORRIBLE internal construction. The ends of the filter are cardboard....the pleats are glued to the cardboard. Even our cheap-ass house brand filters at my workplace (made by Wix) have crimped metal ends on the actual filter cartridge inside the canister and sell for a cheaper price than the basic Fram at WalMart.

I wouldn't put a Fram on my lawnmower.

Well i knew Fram was lower quality but they make it look so nice with that awesome grip dip on the end:p.

Anyways, i know how you feel about poor DSM's. I recently bought my 2g and EVERYTHING is zip[tied or muffler strapped in. Including the intercooler, bumpers, coolant tank, wires, radiator fans, intake setup, lots more wiring, oil cooler, speakers(seriously), spare tire, antenna, moonroof, the list goes on. Ive owned the car i drove home for about 8 months and still never drove it since i drove it home. I just dont like half-a&&ed things plus its a full project for me.

Good luck with the spyder clean up, you'll find some awesome quality work later on through out the "restoration" im sure of it.

good luck with restoring. looks like it would be a nice car, its sad that so many of these cars are just straight raped now a days
