I found someone with this 97 Eagle Talon TSI. It has a little more than 200,000 miles on it but the motor was rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago. The guy who owns it now bought it for a project car until he needed leg surgery and used the rest of the money for that. He wants $1050.00 for it. I want to buy it as a project car. The only problems with it are the clutch needs to be bled out because he hasn't driven it in a while, headliner needs replacing and the throw out bearing needs to be replaced. He drove the car today with only the clutch needing to be pumped before he switched gears. Do you think it's worth buying? I want to spend about 3 months and $5,000 extra on parts to fix it up and get it ready for shows. The car does run which is nice. The interior is extremely crappy but I am fine with it. I am not finding anything worth my money really. I feel like this would be a great project car with a ton of potential. Just happy I can find cheap Eclipse parts online and a ton of older parts at the junkyard which I can buy for dirt cheap. Here are some pictures and a video. Let me know if you guys think this is worth buying for a project. I understand it will require a good amount of work which I am willing to put in. I'll be doing all repairs by hand and hopefully rebuilding the engine starting in a week if I get it.

AKA...420a NON-turbo engine.

It's not worth it at all? Just making sure as I am looking for a project car and I don't want to end up spending more than I plan to get it going. What are your reasons for disliking it? I don't mean to sound like I am questioning you, it's more of why you don't like the car so I can avoid problems in the future.

ive had my experience in one, after i blew my gs-t...
id rather have my broken dsm, knowing what potential it has ...compared to something that would cost fortunes to convert...

Definitely not a TSI.

Looks like your typical abused, beat to shit, unwanted DSM. My advice STEER CLEAR. You'll save yourself a ton of headache trying to rescue that thing.

I wouldnt give him more then 4 or 500 for the car. Even if the motor was "rebuilt" you never really know. personally I wouldnt buy it, but if you really want it then I would say try to talk him down on the price

For starters, the engine bay is white and the car is black, which means they painted it black and horribly at that, a real paint job is going to cost you in the high 3,000.00+ limit, unless you are okay with a 60 foot paint job (only looks good from 60 feet).

Second, it has the 420A engine, which is non-turbo, mostly a dud, and will cost stupid money to get any real potential out of it.

Third I wouldn't buy any car from a guy lying about what it is.

$1,050.00 better spent towards a GST GSX TSI or TSI AWD.

I usually stick to V8s. Good thing I came here or I would have bit on that. I'll let the guy know I won't be getting it anymore. Do you think it's worth it if he drops the price down a ton or this a goner no matter what the price is? Let's say 500 if he drops.

Wow.... That poor car is a mess. I'd pass on it unless you get it to part it out. Chances are your going to find a ton of hacked-up surprises on that one as you tear into it.

Poor rattle-can paint job + manual windows + drum brakes + fwd + 420= PASSSSSSS. You could get a nice awd turbo 1g for half that.

The seller is clearly stating a lie that its a tsi. Who knows what else he is lieing about!

Steer clear and look for something else.
