new project car

Okay so ive pretty much sold my 2gen GSX as of tomorrow and found me a nice little project car to have fun with over the summer. Its a 91 talon 110k miles TSI AWD 5 speed. Its a real piece of shit haha, it really needs a paint job and its missing and fender and a rear view..the seal around the sunroof looked alittle bad 2. looked like all 4 tires where flat the interior wasnt that bad..considering it was all there and thats the only reason it wasnt bad . The entire engine and tranny/driveline are coming with the car but the thing is some important parts are just kinda sitting inside the car and not in the engine..parts like the air filter, mas, fuel rail, injectors, battery, coil pack, ECU is unplugged and valve cover and something about the rear cossmember being off the car and in the trunk...i didnt really understand that part to well o well guess ill find out.

some back story....car been sitting in same spot for 1 1/2 years - 2 years car was purchased running after getting it towed home car wouldnt fire up they suspected coil pack or ECU then they suspected fuel but they "say" the fuel pump works so i dunno. They gave up on it after not really trying much to get it working cause they found another one that would take less to get going and they just left it there and now im taking it over. I noticed they didnt bother to put the valve cover back on so the valve train has been open to the world for as long as its been sitting, i know this is bad . They say it has good compresion. They mentioned the turbo may be siezed they didnt really know but that it did spin, i saw this as a contradiction and another one of those things ill find out on my own ha.
ANYWAY $700 for the car 100% stock
Im gonna fix this thing myself or thats the plan anyway, this thing is getting stripped, role caged and so on.
This will be a first time thing, either with the car fixed or parted out, this will be a deffinate learning exp. or horror story and im sure ill need help.
any pointers would be greatly apriciated, anyone know how deap im gonna have to go? i was figurin on head rebuild and all new engine seals top to bottom...does that sound right? Ive got a few grand and small semi equipped garage alittle know how and alot of hope lemme know what ya think...thanks

yeah yeah, i didnt want to sell it and im not happy that i have im really sad about it actually. I need the money though, need it really really bad..bills to pay and college tuition.

2gs are a lot nicer and id def. keep mine over a 1g, but as far as performance, the 1g is lighter, turns better, and has more potential. 1g is better for a project car if u can find one in excellent condition the body style really grows on you.

$4000 and a set of rims with tires..it was less then i wanted but i really needed to get rid of the car and get the money in hand. yeah it was a local sale to a dude named chet that drove a civic with a Ls vtec swap or something

It's cool that you got a project car to work on. First off I would pull the engine and fully rebuild it. Send the parts out to get ported and cleaned (unless you can do it yourself), build it with all upgraded parts (pistons, seals, bearings). But that is if you have all that money to spend. Also I would drop the tranny and work on that. Maybe get a nice BIG turbo to run , not too big though or it would be a waste. I am someone that can't just buy stock parts and put things back together though so I think I am a bad person to give my opinions. I always go, "well since it is off now I might as well get an upgraded one" , yes I am 19 and in debt already. Not too bad though, we will see after I pick up my 1g turbo eclipse, talon, laser, not sure yet. Good luck.

Moreso 2G's have a suspension that doesn't suck.

And it's more than just shocks/springs can overcome, but this is an area dennis grant or jtoby would be better explaining. I'm not all fancy with camber curves and double wishbones and macpherson struts and whatnot.

I did the same thing. Sold my 97 gsx and bought a 1ga project. I didn't want a car payment and the stupid 2g was crankwalking. It makes a great project to build into a fast drag racer. Mine's not quite as rough as yours though . However, it does have 2 exhuast studs broken off in the head giving it a nice leak. Best of luck to you. And don't listen to the haters. I get questions why I sold the 2g all the time. I just say it wasnt working out, plain and simple.

update

turns out the cars a 1990, they people that sold it to me told me it was a 91 but after getting it home and checking things out i quickly found out it was a 90 that really sucked because i already paid for a 91 eprom haha o well.

This project is going SLOW. Mostly because i dont have all the time in the world to work on it but its coming along. After taking engine apart i find that the pistons look great and the valves look good 2, looks like it should hold good compression. now im gettin the head hot tanked and all that, changing the seals on EVERYTHING top and bottom in the engine with a topline kit. Ive got a 91 eprom and im getting everything to do the swap so the tach works and everything. got the car gutted and ready for the all the stuff to go in. the turbo seems to be in good conditon spins and no shaft movment. Got some michelin pilot sport tires on 5 star 2g rims for it. I got some BPR7ES for it and some MSD wires for it, now im looking for a old HKS EVC to turn the boost up and thats polly the only underhood mods im gonna be doing till i get it running good.

Should be going back together soon, hopefully nothing pops up that screws me over haha.

I am having quite a dilema myself........... i have a 99 GSX that i have been "working" on doing upgrades on and so on........... this pass week me and my bro found a 1ga for 2600 we split it half and half and hes using it now.... when hes done with it i want to buy it and sell my 2g........... what to do what to do
