I was told that Seibon's quality is 100x's better then VIS. The weave, the fit, everything is better from what I have heard.

i was told this too, everyone with carbon parts locally has VIS, and a couple small importfan (GTP) pieces, the VIS look a little better than the GTP i've seen but the GTP pieces were trim and cooling panels which have small tight curves so i figured thety would be harder to do. The VIS cloth looks better i think.

I wanted to get a seibon instead of the discontinued TRD i had ordered, but i had already had enough of waiting 11 months to get a hood so i just got the VIS so i didn't have to wait too much longer... got it a couple days ago, i test fit it without the hood latch, seems to line up pretty nice and i dont see any flaws in it..

i dont understand why they scrapped the TRD hoof.... what made it so hard to fit right? take an OEM CF hood and cut holes in it, you can even leave the hump in there. meh, importfan prob wouldve made a good amout of money off that hood too, o well. i have seen it done, however they werent in CF.

seibon hoods are amazing, also fiber images are real good too. both prob better quality than VIS, but more $$$. VIS hoods are good for the money.

HOW is a vented hood better of aerodynamics?? Vent = 'form drag', due to the vent sticking out of the hood instead of a smooth hood surface AND the air coming out of the bay will collide with the air flowing over the hood to cause 'eddies' which will cause 'interference drag'. Both are parasite drag, which is bad for airflow and bad in aerodynamic design. :nono: They are good for engine bay cooling though. I agree on that one. :thumb:

Another thing, wouldn't a hood with an intake, provide more flow to the intake filter and hence increase horsepower? Or is the horsepower increase so small that it is not even noticable with the ram air hood? anyone know?

Bigglesworth87 - I'll try to find a side pic of the invader hood to see what you are talking about.

IF you are running the oem air box... nothing will help, it already breathes cooler air from outside the engine bay...

If you aren't and have not "re-boxed" it in a vented hood may help under hood temps stay down thus allowing your intake to get cooler "backwash" from the engine bay and in motion actaully draw air from the oem snorkel/hole over the filter. (but not likely since rad air would probably flow thru instead.)

The intake ones I can't see doing any good honestly unless you have the airbox or have built an air box and seal it to the hood... then it is just cooler air, not a ram air effect.

adda carbontrix vent to the oem hood and call it a day if you are looking to simplyand effectively vent hot air.

Bringing this back from the dead since I searched :) Looking for a CF hood that looks good and has functional venting (since I usually get intake temps of 100+ OMG )

Does anyone have pics of the Seibon VSII, XT, BX and VIS JS hoods on DSMs?

Also saw that PaleDSM is supposed to have a sick hood...anyone have pics?

There was a Supra TRD-style hood that importfan was making, is anyone else making that now?

If only they made this...

That's not the same hood..The one I quoted you can see has a dip before the scoop..And the scoop is smaller..The one from andy's auto sport has a bigger scoop, and no dip before the scoop..And its 600 freakin dollars..

If you check the listing for that hood, they have one for non-turbo and one for turbo: http://www.andysautosport.com/mitsu...exterior/hoods/fiberglass hoods/ram air hoods . My guess is that they use the same general pic as reference. Only makes sense the turbo version would be higher up because of the timing belt (reason for two types) reason for the dip. It's the same price as the one posted by TheChaos in 2005 (694$)

Sorry for digging up the dead..I know you've decided, bought, painted and installed your hood but something thats always been on my mind is a double bulge hood (opposite side). Someone with some skills might be able to acomplish this...just an idea
