So I’m getting ready to buy a 93 gs eclipse for 1800 and it mostly looks fine except there’s a really loud ticking noise coming from the engine, the owner says it’s lifter tick and it sounds reasonable but I’m still skeptical, do you guys think it worth the risk?

Pull a plug wire, one by one. (DISCLAIMER - be careful you will probably get shocked). If the noise get considerably less when you kill one, it is that rod.

Old trick we used way back when, although we could kill each cylinder with the oscilloscope individually (and not get the piss shocked out of us). It is a valid test.

Lifters have nothing to do with a spark plug but a rod bearing does.

Thanks man, I’ll try next time I see it and make a follow up post regarding what happened
