While I was driving my eclipse, a ticking noise from my motor occured. It suddenly shut off my engine. I tried to start it up again and all I hear is the ticking noise. When it finally started and i tried driving it, the car shut off completely. Now the car won't crank at all?? Why will it not crank?? Are cars that spun a bearing or having a rod knock not start at all??

It did make the ticking noise before when it did start. Now it wont start at all!!

The battery is fully charged too

The only things I can think of that will cause your DSM to not start:
Bad alternator could have drained the battery.
Frozen fuel line if you are in a cold region with low fuel level.
Starter could have died.

Do the lights and stereo work?

If his lights work it could only be the fuel line freezing because the starter wouldn't of ticked while driving would it?

if you had a ticking noise and was coming from the head, could be a timing issue and may have a broken timing belt or it jumped time and bent a valve and now may not have the compression to start. I could be flooded although not likely but, many things could be wrong. check your timing belt for any kind of damage or see if it is loose.

check fuel injector connections and all the little things to start eliminating possibilities. I would check sparkplugs as well to see if they are hinting of any major problems as well as your air sensor.

If the engine is not turning over but you think it might start and it is a stick, jump it off. If it wont stay running or still wont start, check all the above.

First: check the timing belt. If you try to start it in any form and the belt is broken or loose, you will probably bend more valves and/or mess up a piston or more trying to start it. If it is broken or loose, you will have to pull the head to check everything else out as you probably bent/broke several things.

check timing, make sure everything lines up on that end. If that is all fine, ( i assume from your posting that the car cranks right? ) if it does then it could be your Crank angle sensor, or your Cam angle sensor ( if its a 1g then CAS sensor , didnt check to see what car you had )

from there it could be a bad coil pack, bad fuel pump, frozen lines if its cold out, on and on it goes,,,

if your not getting spark it might be your sensors i listed above,

He said it wont crank at all now. He said it ran and made a ticking noise and died again once he got it started then died for good. I think it jumped time due to a failing timing belt or tensioner. the second time he got it started and it suddenly died, I believe the belt either broke or it jumped time worse and bent too many valves and now it has no compression to even run. My best guess with what little he said.

Try to turn the engine from the harmonic pulley.
I don't think is your rod, Just turn the engine, if you can't turn it one way, try both directions, If it turns, check your timing belt when turning the engine to see if it moves, If it looks wright check your timing marks, if everything is OK, than you can proceed with the round things like all have told you, (fuel, spark, etc.).

I'm calling a skipped timing belt. The Ticking would be valves slapping the pistons. The vehicle died as the valves bent/broke. When you started it the second time, the valves either broke completely or bent so bad that the engine cannot generate compression to start and refuses to start at this point.

Check the timing as others have stated and get back with us.

sounds like a spun rod bearing. But like dboyle23 said its a knock, like metal against metal in a hollow area. (on my 3rd motor after 2 spun rod bearing motors) and i had my cars knocking get really bad and then shut off and then it wouldnt start again. Drop the oil pan and turn the crank by hand and watch for a rod that doesnt move exactly when the crank moves... hope this helps.
