ok so if i have rod knock how do i fix, rod knock. Do i replace the rod bearing or the crank shaft?:hmm:

You replace the parts that are bad. You'll need to pull the motor out and clean out the oil journals of metal shavings. If it's on the crank side the you'll need to spec the crank journal and micro polish if it's reusable.

It's not a good idea to cut your crank either. If you are unsure on what to do, take it to some one that can repair it or have someone guide you through while supervising you.

I've read it's ok to cut the crank if you remove the balls to clean. Wish I would have known that before I ordered a new one so I'm telling you. If you do it just follow the Bible and make sure you label wires, hoses, bag n tag your bolts!

possibly both.

like others have said, you wont know the extent of the damage until you at least have the oil pan out. I know some who have gotten away with just replacing the rod bearings, while others have only gotten 50 or so miles before the new bearings got messed up as well. Its best to teardown and rebuild.

thanks bros for the help. going to do some work on the car. and ill get back with some news later.

so this is what i did. i dropped the oil pan, didnt see any metal shavings but i did see tiny flacks. found out that on piston two, the rod bearing was really bad. also i try'd to move the rod and it was a lil stiff to move, the other three moved freely. could it also be the rod on that piston that is bad. any help

o yea i checked to see if the crankshaft had any damage and no it didnt. i also used a micro miter and got 45mm on the crankshaft rod bearing journals is that ok

Okay so you had a rod knock, and the bearings and crank looked fine? I would pull the caps on all four rods and inspect. If all look decent I would then pull the main caps and inspect. It is rare but not impossible for the bushing in the rod to go bad causing stiffness but I would definitely check all bearings first. just my .02

If your crank looks fine on the rod connecting parts then just swap in some new bearings. Check for crank end play pull and push on it before removong the main. Could be the main bearings went out also could be a balance shaft bearing if there is no wear on crank bearings. Check it for play while your down there just to be sure.
