Well guys I am stumped:confused: and hope to get help from the more experienced members on these Forums..
I have a 91 Talon TSI 117,xxx completely stock. As the title says, I installed a new head on it due to my wonderful old TB tensioner:notgood:.
Well after installing the new head and putting everything back together I started her up. It took a few tries but it turned on and idled at about 1000rpm. It wasnt the smoothest, it kind of sounded like it was cammed or something. Bt i thought it was due to my degreeing of timing being off. I took her for a drive around the block and IT HAD NO POWER, very slugish, stumbling all the way back home. After a while running it starts backfireing at times. At idle, i went ahead and disconnected injector 1, no change, still idling the same. Then I disconnected injector 2, still nothing, idles the same. Then 1 AND 2, still the same. But as soon as i disconnect injector 3 or 4 it dies. What could cause this? I did a compression test and got the following results:
cyl 1- 110
cyl 2- 110
cyl 3- 120
cyl 4- 120
I know these might not be the greatest but I have seen others with lower numbers, still running fine. I dont believe my mechanical timing could be off, i double checked that, marks and gap seemed good. On a side note i did replace the knock sensor while i was in there, also threw in some new spakplugs. Any help will be greatly appriciated! and thank you guys in advanced..;)

When you put the new head on, did you make sure that the block was at TDC on the compression stroke?

Yes I did, would that cause something like this though? I cant explain it runnning the same with injectors 1 and 2 dinconnected or not. Anything you think i should test?

those compression number are definitely low especially on cylinder 1 and 2....seems like your pretty much firing on 2 cylinders at this point. Do a leakdown test and check compression while adding oil to the pistons to see if the piston rings are the culprit. Im pretty sure you may have bent valves however and that is what is causing the poor compression. The lowest i"ve seen a dsm run fine on is 120 to 125psi compression btw.

Yeah well ill check it out and see if its the rings.. but would low compression of 110 cause cyl 1 and 2 not to fire? Only reason i ask is because ive seen a buddy run 110 all across and still run ok. It wasnt the fastest mind you but he still ran ok.. Anything else you guys think i shud test?

Did you put your injector plugs and plug wires onto the corresponding injector/plug?

Turns out spark plug wires were switched up:ohdamn:
