Please Help, I Need An Engine!!!!!

I was driving my 96 talon tsi awd from cincinnati, Ohio to San Diego and 20min into Utah I start overheating and my engine started to knock. I had to get it towed 150miles to the nearest mechanic for them to tell me I need a new engine . So I rented a Uhall+trailer for $550 and I just got here to San Diego today and am staying for at least 3 months.

What should I do get it rebuilt, find a used one or does anyone know where I can get either? I do have some mods and plan on doing more but I this point I really just need a car that runs.

Anyone else from San Diego? Where should I take it?

Or does anyone know where I can get a $1000-$2000 car or bike for the time being?
