420A Pistons

What are some good pistons to throw into this motor? I bought a eclipse that had a already turbocharged motor so I'm just rebuilding the motor. I'll run this thing at 5 psi max cause i'm not really concerned about performance. I just want something better then stock and doesn't break the bank. Something in between oem and forged pistons? I'm also looking for nicer rods as well if there's any good options. A pistons and rods set would be awesome if anybody has a good set in mind. Thanks

Based on what I've read about that it's not going to happen. The pistons have different compression heights because the engines are stroked differently

5 pounds isn't enough to worry about rods, but if you've got the cash to do it anyway, Eagle is the most popular.

The main concern with stock pistons is cracking the ringlands. I can't say whether reproduction pistons are any stronger than OEM but I would assume not. Forged is really the only option for an upgrade.
You'll have to make a choice though. Forged pistons for a 420a only come in 2 options:
10.5:1 compression ratio or an 8.8

10.5:1 is typically for N/A applications. But stepping down to 8.8 will require a re-tune to make the engine run worth a damn at lower rpm's. And without a tuning solution, you're either spending some extra cash to get one or you're living with however it runs.

Now at one point you could buy forged pistons with the factory compression ratio (9.6:1). But I don't think you'll have luck finding any.

Assuming that you need to replace the pistons, my honest opinion is that you could probably get away with buying some regular replacements like from RockAuto. As long as you run decent fuel 89 or higher. Cylinder knock and detonation is truly a killer of factory ringlands
