pistions, are they toast?

i recently bent all my intake valves. i was just wondering if my pistons are toast. they look pretty bad.

They are fine. Try to remove the sharp edges that the valves caused by hitting the piston. I did that to mine once, and I buffed it out with some sandpaper or something like that.

They'll be just fine. File out the rough edges so you don't develop hot spots on the surface.

You really need to pull them out and see if the rings rotate freely in the grooves. Sometimes when the valves hit the pistons they don't crack, but the lands get crushed against the rings. This is also a good time for some new rings and bearings.

Those look like they could have cracked ring lands. I wouldnt run them until I inspected them. Either way you will pulling them to atleast debur the new hot spots your valves made on the pistons for you.

You dont need to take an easy head job and turn it into a full rebuild. Deburr it, slap on your head and drive it. It will be fine.

if you want to do a "quick check" of the rings in the block, roll the engine over to mid stroke, so all the pistons are halfway in the block, and pour about an inch of oil on top of the pistions, then over the next several hours, check on the level. if they all go down the same rate you should be fine, but if one drops way more than the other you have a ring problem.

it is common for the stock pistons to pinch a ring when the valves smack it, so do not be surprized if you end up having to pop the pistons out and replace one or more...
